A 1st, Kyrou, and Teresenko make the Flames better not worse for all the plug pullers

Everyone is talking NJ and St Louis as the two teams most likely calling and I agree but my darkhorse team for trading for Tkachuk is Toronto. Dubas is under big pressure and the media around here says he wants to make one more big move for the upcoming season. I think Tkachuk would be open to signing a long term deal there, he is close with Matthews from the US program and Marner from London. Nylander is the obvious main piece coming back as he has never quite fit in there and the fan base has kind of soured in him, I am not sure why, great player. He would fit in nicely with our Swedish mafia here. As for other pieces I have no idea. They can't seem to sign Sandin, he would look good in our blueline. The Leafs are right up against the cap so not sure exactly what else comes cap dump wise but don't count Toronto out if Tkachuk is traded.

We can give them this generations Doug Gilmore for Leeman trade! Would round out this failed iteration of the Flames perfectly

Yup, and if you’re able to ditch Lucic and sign Kadri, I’d say the team on paper is better then last years.

I personally do not think I could do better than the current GM (despite Gio4PM encouraging me to apply for the job). I think any other GM in hockey would have handled this better. You always need to trust the professionals and the Flames should hire one to be their GM.

For interest's sake, someone on r/calgaryflames looked at other teams subreddits and compiled what those fanbases seemed to think would be Tkachuk's trade value:
ANA: Zellweger, Perreault, Comtois, 1st
BOS: DeBrusk, Lysell, 1st, 1st
BUF: Cozens, Peterka, 1st, pick/prospect
CAR: Teravainen, Necas, 1st, 1st/2nd, prospect
DET: Vrana, Veleno, Wallinder, 1st
MTL: Suzuki/Caufield, Barron/Guhle, 1st
NJD: Bratt? (Point of contention)/Sharangovich + Holtz + 1st
NYI: Beauvillier, Wahlstrom, Raty, 1st, 2nd
NYR: Kakko, Lindgren, 1st, 1st
OTT: Debrincat + or Batherson, Zaitsev
PIT: Legare/Poulin/Pickering (pick 2), 1st, 1st
STL: Kyrou, Krug, 1st
TOR: Nylander, Holl/Sandin/Pick
WPG: Scheifele, Heinola, Vesalainen, 1st

Lol at Toronto, Nylander and one of Holl who they want to fire into the sun, Sandin who some have said isn’t rounding into what they’d hoped or a ‘pick’
Man I hate that franchise. Yeah we’re just gonna gift you Tkachuk who’s besties with Mathews and won a memorial cup with Marner, GTFO

Thanks whether it's super accurate or not!
There's this feel in this string that it's St Louis or Bust.
Trelving will take the best offer and doesn't owe Tkachuk a free ticket home by any means. Brady signed in Ottawa so any team in the US could take the chance they could sign the guy. St Louis is one possible option.

some of those packages are certainly more intriguing than others lol. Also would depend on which route they ultimately want to go ... I look at that Blues offer and don't think we'd be a much worse team or head for a rebuild when you add Kyrou and Krug instead of Tkachuk. That Devils offer also has that structure of young roster player + blue chip prospect + 1st that should be enticing. Carolina too, Necas could very well be a building block while you could sell off Teravainen at some point for more future assets, should you want to rebuild.
Others are more of the quantity for quality nature, others are magic beans completely. Then there's offers including players involved the Hockey Canada case and who have not come forward with a statement yet. We have no idea which teams would ultimately be interested and what the offers would be, but still interesting to see what they other fanbases think about it.
I haven't read anything about Nashville, but I'd personally find them an interesting dance partner too. Tkachuk would look good on the other side of Forsberg, and they'd have some interesting pieces to make it work (Tomasino, Jeannot, prospects).

One other observation and off to worrk.
Treliving didn't realize he was actually negotiating with Johnnys wife.
He does know he's negotiating with the "All the Tkachuks" and a trade may be very wise and let the next team deal with "the Tkachuks".

Tanking will only get it 3 or so top 5 picks. Then you have to do the rest through good depth drafting, trades, free agent signings, and asset management.
A future Flames tank would look a lot more like their previous rebuild then the Oilers tank job.
|
Which is fine because I'm far more confident they find better players in the top 5 of the draft than in the 12-22 of the draft. And if you're proactive hopefully your depth makes up for your lack of superstars if you don't find them. No strategy is a guarantee but I'd rather play the odds.

They should have been planning for this strategy a year or two ago. The organization seems to never have any foresight. And I'm pretty sure they will try and fight the inevitable yet again, leaving them asset poor with a below average roster in the end.

Is he still on Holidays?
Tkachuks a troll. He's working with the team to troll the media. Didn't want to disturb his holidays

Yeah but you're not getting two of the Blues top scorers from last season and a 1st round pick on top of it lol

Both Kyrou and Tarasenko were over point per game last season.
They combined for 61 goals and 157 points.
More realistic expectations would be kyrou (Flames will want control and Tarasenko only has one year) plus a 1st round pick and maybe you can squeeze a prospect too.

Except there's a salary cap, and St. Louis would need to dump cap for that to work
I can see a deal around Kyrou and Tarasenko being made..

I look at that list of other teams fans proposals and come out wanting to keep Tkachuk. I'd make another offer at 11 x 8 or 7, see if he'll take that and the C. But if not then I say launch full rebuild, no half measures.
