There's nothing really enticing at all for western Canada to upper level NHL players, especially when none of the teams seem to have a clue how to build a proper contender. Add in the #### weather and potential lockdown issues for covid or the next big virus and it's not surprising at all that players who have the choice are bolting

But if he wants out in general, then so be it. I'm not convinced he's about to be traded yet based on the vague speculation that's fueling it right now. It seems like it's the local media guys saying "Oh, well without Gaudreau why would Tkachuk stay? Surely he's going to bolt just like Gaudreau did so they're probably going to trade him." Could be the reality, but there haven't been any actual reports mixed in that he's asked to be traded or that the Flames are shopping him, right?
Being named captain and locking in long-term would be cool too. Either way, I think the Flames are prepared for either posibility.
|
My only counter point would be that guys like Boomer and Steinberg rarely venture into the rumor space, and wouldn’t for something this big.
Kind of feels like management want to prep the fans for this being a really realistic outcome.

Not sure why everyone is taking this as bad news...he won't be holding out, he won't be taking an offer sheet.
He will be signing or he will be traded...guy isn't walking as UFA which was the big fear in the other threads

Unbelievable how people think they could do a better job then an actual GM. You have MAYBE 10% of the actual information. You know sweet #### all about about what actually goes on behind the scenes and during these negotiations… yet, you set your own imaginary scenarios up as fact and then argue your point based on a completely invented foundation, and are absolutely arrogant about your blind idiocy the entire time.

I think teams outside of Vancouver and Montreal are going to have to start drafting less Americans and a lot more Canadians, and maybe scandinavians. I'm so sick of pampered americans.

Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver aren't going to have much of an issue. The prairie teams and Ottawa are getting dicked.

Vancouver's leading scorer by 31 points is an American who wants out last I checked

I kind of hope more trade requests come. Basically force the Flames to tear it down and throw their hat into the Bedard sweepstakes and load up on picks in what is supposed to be a deep draft.

Tbh I’m cool with this. Not because of the Bedard sweepstakes. But because I don’t want players on the Flames who don’t want to be there

We’re not going to be in the Bedard conversation as long as Sutter is the coach

Some of the rumored deals make the Flames better now and in the future.
I really hope other GMs feel the same way as some media members. A home run deal and Tkachuk scoring 65 points next season for 10M would be nice.

The team is also way too good...plus the returns and cap space use.
The bottom teams in the league this year are something else

Even if went that way do you really think we are outsucking teams like Arizona, Chicago, Anaheim, Seattle, and Philly? It isn't happening and Murray Edwards is not pulling the plug on this season coming up from everything we heard.

With an aggressive rebuild Backlund could be our Andreychuk.
