So that's probably your starting point for a Tkachuk deal.
|
Debrincat has two years of control left, Tkachuk has but one. A huge difference.

I agree, but Stultze is their most important player, the #1 centre they are building around. He's going no where.
Ottawa has signed the majority of their core players long term now.
And if Tkachuk signs his QO, he can't be signed to a long term contract right now. So, July 22 becomes an important date.

Can't you sign him to an extension even if he accepts his 1 year QO?

So that's probably your starting point for a Tkachuk deal.
Debrincat: 24 years old (Dec 18 1997) - GP: 368 G: 160 G/GP: 0.43 P: 307 P/GP: 0.83
Tkachuk: 24 years old (Dec 11 1997) - GP: 431 G: 152 G/GP: 0.35 P: 382 P/GP: 0.88
I'm not sure you're ever going to find a more direct comparison in a trade than that. Hell they are born 7 days apart even. Debrincat is actually in a better contract situation because it's more like Tkachuk last year. He has 1 year at $6.4M, before he needs to be qualified at $9M next year and that would take him right to UFA.
|
Career high 78 points vs 105 though.
I agree they're very similar outside of that, but all the more reason this is the time to cash in on Tkachuk.
The return should start with the Debrincat deal and add to it.

He's generally considered one of the top 3 prospects in the game. He's had some injuries but the package of size, skating and hockey sense is still all there.
They ain't moving him. Let alone for Hanifin. He's a huge part of their plan. He's the heir to Kopitar.

Byfield is the next Nolan Patrick.
Book it.
The guy was sadly overhyped his draft year, Stuzle was easily the best player available.
I think Byfield could play in the NHL but a bottom 6 role, he doesn't have the impact factor you would expect from such a high draft pick. Sadly he's also had injury problems now, I'm not sure I'd trade Hanifin 1 for 1 for Byfield tbh.

The difference between two years of control and 1 year is huge. There is no reason to expect that two years of Debrincat is worth less than one year of Tkachuk.

Agree. Has to happen now to make sense.
Author’s note: I wrote this without reading subsequent posts and am sure this could be a double fata.

Nolan Patrick’s career was derailed by injuries. Nothing else.

Yep, and Byfield has had a significant wrist and ankle injury already.

IIRC, he can only be signed to an extension starting Jan 1, 2023, if he accepts his QO.
I believe its to prevent teams from signing a one year deal to be immediately followed up with a multi-year deal the next day. Example, you sign for $1M today for this year, and we'll sign you to an 8 year extension worth $10M per year tomorrow.

That’s true but Patrick’s are a long term lingering head problem.

Problem is, there is no chance you can get him for that.
Kadri will either re-sign with the Avs, or be wildly over-priced (possibly both).

Is he going to get that with the Avs? They’re okay for space this year if the move Compher, but the next year they have a ton of contracts to sign, including MacKinnon.

I would be ok with 5 yrs @ 8M aav max but that's it on Kadri. I do think if the Flames intend to compete again the big hole on this roster has always been second line C. We are fine on the wings.

Kadri would be just what the doctor ordered for this team. Interesting to see what transpires. Kadri, Mangiapane and Tkachuk would be a scrum waiting to happen every single shift.
