No. The Flames won't be considered a contender for the ne t few years. The Flames.are.t close, if they can get assets for Backlund, they should.
Instead, they'll probably give out bad contracts and give up assets. I guess the joke will be on whatever team the Flames trade thier pick to because it'll be in the mid teens.

He plays McDavid really well. I remember him doing it in Toronto.

Vegas would never give away a freebie to someone in the same division.

We should offer sheet Nicolas Roy.
Even at 3.25 Vegas couldn't afford it, he is definitely worth it.

I still think Nazem Kadri will be back with the Avalanche. But it’s not done yet, and we’re entering into the evening of the second day of his being an unrestricted free agent. Usually, things don’t take so long. Free agents usually sign pretty quickly, the big names anyway.
But it hasn’t happened yet. All I can say is what I said this morning: I think he wants to come back to the Avalanche and I think the Avalanche would like to have him back. But the distance from a pen to paper is all relative. It might be close, but it might as well be an ocean apart too. Nothing is official until you sign on the line that is dotted (paraphrasing a line from the great movie “Glengarry, Glen Ross.”
I think the Calgary Flames have emerged as a strong suitor still for the services of Kadri, and why wouldn’t they? They just lost a top-line player in humiliating fashion, with Johnny Gaudreau going to Columbus. GM Brad Treliving is living under a lot of stress right now, having lost out on Johnny Hockey after painting an optimistic picture to the Flames’ faithful.
|
Still sounds like he most likely goes back to the Avs

With Kylington, Mangiapane, and Tkachuk as RFAs right now, I don't think breaking the offer sheet seal is something that the Flames should do. Get those guys signed and/or traded first at least, then see how much money is left.

The best thing for us would be Tkachuk signing an offer sheet. Either take 4 firsts or skip over the negotiating and have him locked up.
I don’t think Tkachuk would accept an offer sheet unless he’s fully committed to being a flame for the length of that contract.

We were at, or near the top of every positive advanced stat there is. Any team with Darryl Sutter as their coach has a chance, so long as said team makes it into the playoffs. When the Kings won their first cup, they barely made it in, then barely lost en route to the finals.

The Kings won because they were stacked and a heavy team. The Flames are not.

Silver lining then: Unless Flames replace Gaudreau with Phillips, this team is bound to be heavier.

Not the first team to lose a UFA and not the last
Better than average chance the contract ages poorly too. In 8 years I'm guessing we won't be here wishing we were paying Gaudreau 10.5M

The game has changed a bit since then. Even so, Darryl is the great equalizer.

Good night. Tomorrow morning we’ll all wake up to Kadri being a member of the Flames. Maybe. Just feels like it.

Truth. Im not a 65 year old farmer as Darryl is, and I like to think I can adjust but he put a performance on for the whole league. Torts should be calling him also. Without some old farmer he wouldn't be in Philly.

If they aren't rebuilding (I think they should) .. here is my ideal line-up for next season.
Tkachuk-Lindholm-Konecny
Mangiapane-Kadri-Toffoli
Pelletier-Backlund-Coleman
Rooney-Ruzicka-Lewis
Andersson-Hanifin
Tanev-Kylington
Zadorov-Mackey
Markstrom
Vladar
Trade Lucic for future considerations
Trade Monahan for future considerations
Trade Dube + Valimaki + picks for Konecny
Sign Kadri to 6 years at $8 MM per
