I don't think Tkachuk signs for 8 years. I think he signs here for 6. Lines him up for UFA the same time as his brother and still young enough for another big payday. I am guessing 10M x 6.

Do you really think other teams don’t know that Tkachuk was more productive with Gaudreau and Lindholm? And now Gaudreau is gone?

I don’t think it’s going to affect Tkachuk’s market value at all.

Yeah I'm not sure why you would trade all of that when there is a chance you could have him for free next summer.

Tkachuk’s value as an RFA is at least the same as Fiala’s if not quite a bit more, so a 1st ++

I'd think from Tkachuk's perspective this might be the best opportunity to negotiate/extort the highest possible AAV contract. I'd expect he won't hit the same numbers this upcoming season so might as well take advantage of the career season. It's also an opportunity to step up and show you want to be here and make it your team, which the fans would love obviously.

It's not like we can't afford it, more like can we afford not to if he's willing to sign.

Unless of course he really doesn't like playing here, in which case it makes sense to get to UFA as soon as possible to choose his own destination.

LOL. Jordan Kyrou second best season in the NHL is 35 points, but ya we would have to add to Tkachuk to get a stud like him.

Tkachuk 9.75 x 8
Mangiapane 5.25 x 8
Kylington 4.25 x 8

Go long with all three. These are all good players with proven histories of success and production. Only problem is with these three deals the Flames would still need to dump about 2 mil in cap.

I imagine New Jersey and Philadelphia thought the same thing about Johhny.

If you have the chance to trade for and lock up a 24 year old 40 goal, 100 point player long term then you do it..

Tarasenko while a good player has a trade request pending and just one year remaining on his contract.

In addition to that people do realize that Tkachuk is the same age as Kyrou, right? Tkachuk nearly matched Kyrou's career point totals last season alone..

If they do trade Tkachuk it'd be nice if they could acquire an unprotected 2023 1st from a team team that might think they're ready to take a step but end up failing miserably.

Like New Jersey possibly.

I like the idea of Holtz (another Swede) + 2023 1st

Tkachuk and Kyrou are the same age right? Why the aversion to building around Tkachuk but not Kyrou?

I think people just love to fantasy GM.

He doesn’t need to be the centrepiece, but he’s absolutely a first line winger.

That only costs so little.

It all depends what the plan is (if there is one), and if he wants to be here.

Right now, I’d hope they’re having very frank discussions with Tkachuk, Lindholm, and Hanifin about their futures.

If they don’t want to be here, if Johnny leaving changes the calculation for them, fair enough.

But tell us now. Don’t put us through a year’s worth of song and dance about how much you love it here if you don’t.

And in Tkachuk’s case, he’s either got to be extended by camp or traded.

Yep, what just happened with Gaudreau should be quieting down the people saying "why wouldn't that team just wait? They know he's going there anyways"

Too much uncertainty.

Could have. RFA a year away from UFA. Same situation as Tkachuk.

Dont think we'd add either. Saying that he has had slower devopment than Tkachuk but can play centre. He was point per game last year. And the year he had 35 points Chucky had 43 (last year, shortened season).

Signed for 2.8 this year then rfa.

Wouldn't be the worst trade especially if we get a 1st round pick too.

One thing with Tkachuk is that he strikes me as a guy who isn't going to beat around the bush. If he intends to leave, I expect that he would let the Flames know and would give them time to sort it out.

So talk to Tkachuk and get three or five destinations where he wants to go.

Then you’re talking about 8 years of Tkachuk’s services instead of one, and that’s worth more.

Tkachuk can’t still want to test UFA just for the sake of it after watching Gaudreau end up in Columbus for $15M less than Calgary offered.

So if he can go to St Louis and get his $72M, I think he’d take that.

Tkachuk - signed - 8x9.25M ($1M more than Brady’s AAV)

For

Tarasenko (expiring $7.5M)
Barbashev (expiring $2.25M)
C - Zachary Bolduc - 19 year old 1st round pick in ‘21, had 99 points in the Q with Rimouski this year.
1st - 2023

Maybe Tkachuk is “worth more” but two 1st, and two guys you could turn into 1sts/2nds at the deadline is a win at this point.

Tkachuk will do whatever he needs to to strengthen his negotiating position. That much is clear.
