True. Could also have been part of their deal w Gaudreau was to make strong offers to the bash brothers.

Honestly I have a tough time seeing Zadorov turning down that kind of security and income.

But Gaudreau left success and millions on the table for reasons I don’t understand. So what do I know? I’ve never been to Columbus. Maybe it’s awesome. It’s seems nice. Always had a soft spot for the team and market. I hate them now though.

Well it doesn't have much of a skyline. It looks like it's Calgary in 1977.

My best guess is all based on that long Russian Youtube documentary on Zads and seeing him and his family that they liked the stability here in Calgary and his kids were still in school here. I saw him still in town on the street long after our elimination.

Overall I don’t necessarily begrudge the idea of making millions in a low key destination and just being able to play hockey and wander the street and not have to constantly answer stupid questions from stupid reporters questioning your effort or locality or playoff prowess or whatever.

But yeah it’s not a winning attitude and I’m okay with him being gone in that case. He’s a dynamic player, I wish he wanted to lead Calgary because he could
If he wanted.

Most American cities have surprisingly bad skylines. Chicago is basically the only city in the Midwest with a better skyline than Calgary.

Yeah but he’s giving up two years and $8+million worth of stability in a place where he has known teammates and an established d partner (not an easy find and can sometimes be the difference between good and bad).

His kids are young. Same thing I don’t really understand about Gaudreau and the kids close to grandparents scenario. I don’t remember anything before I was 10 really. Or only snippets. So the kids will only ever remember what life is like after you retire anyways. But when thinking further (on Gaudreau) I do understand the draw of having your kids born American citizens.

What about Zad/Stone as a 3rd pairing? I think Stone showed he can still play and likely would take a year and close to league minimum. I guess unless Mackey or Valimaki can take the step up, or find this years Gudbranson again.

His kids would be born American citizens regardless of where he lives since he and his wife are American citizens.

Agreed. No reason why Stone hasn’t earned that spot to at least be fighting for full time w Mackey and the other youngsters.

One of the things I quickly realized when I moved to the States, skylines mean nothing. The least important facet of a city ever.

That actually looks pretty nice. I wished Calgary was like it was back in the old days at 500,000-750,000 in population size. I don't even see the city's skyline where I live and if I don't have to go to the downtown core, even better!

Like I said last year, we need 5 Zadarovs!

Was happy at first when we got a big hulk smash dman in him but he was even better in my eyes after those Russian Youtube interviews.

Calgary has the 59th best skyline in the world according to this website https://tudl0867.home.xs4all.nl/skylines.html

Per capita Calgary has one of the best skylines in the world.

I never said it needed to be spent today. But if the elite talent wasn't on the UFA list today, it certainly won't be on the list later this summer.

So which of the available players going into UFA do you think was the kind of elite talent that the Flames should have spent their dough on?
