I think we should just stop assuming things.
Yes, I am angry with how this played out.
The story will come out. He’s gone. Let’s just relax.

TBF, if Gaudreau played in Washington he’d live outside, same with Detroit, etc.

Have you looked at the price of real estate in Georgetown or Foggy Bottom? Or DuPont Circle?
Everyone’s an expert on everything I guess.

All those other teams are in the same position, they all stink, they’re all rebuilding, they’re all a drive away.
I don’t know what the exact reasoning for his choice is, but ultimately, we already knew he was willing to accept less money where ever he went because it was a decision to be closer to family, which he is now. Columbus plays in the eastern time zone, so now his family doesn’t have to stay up late to watch him play. He’s also a drive away now instead of a plane ride away.
Regardless, I don’t think it had anything to do with the team. There was no slight here. He loved the team, loved the fans, loved the city and etc. Calgary ultimately was just too far out west. That’s what it came down to IMO. Maybe it was as simple as a Philly kid like Johnny didn’t want to play for a hated rival. I don’t know, whatever it was, he wasn’t coming back up north of the border, so again, it doesn’t make a difference to me where he ended because it wasn’t going to be here.

Since yesterday afternoon?
We could all understand money and family, chance of winning ect.
To hold the Flames hostage and then take less money on a terrible team that really isn't that close to home. I can see why people are kinda pissed. I am one of them.

I still can't believe he left us to go to ####ing Columbus.
I hope he never plays another playoff game in his career.

Sounds like Columbus might have surprised everyone but Gaudreau. He was probably chatting with those guys long before today.

Canada must not be a very nice place to live. Or Sutter is mean. Or Gaudreau is just a #### (rhymes with bunt).
Probably one of those.

Little Johnny should just be honest and say he doesn't want the pressure of ever having to win again.

For whatever reason it wasn’t working out in NJ or Philly so Johnny and his agent had to come up with the next best compromise and approach CBJ for a sweetheart deal.
He and his wife are happier because at least they are closer to family (couldn't get closer, but hey at least he can show her he tried). The compromise is playing in Columbus and leaving $15M on the table.
It makes sense. I’m disappointed at how it played out, but not upset.

That's makes no sense at all. And this is from the wife's point of view.

Too far west, not in the US, not close enough to family, etc etc just seem like a bunch of lame excuses for leaving the city that has treated him like royalty since he arrived here. (comments removed) We move on.

I didn't want to tell this story when Gaudreau was here, it's not overly salacious or criminal or anything just felt like it wasn't appropriate but now I might as well tell it. It was 2016 I'm pretty sure, my friend and I ran into Gaudreau and Bouma at National. The Flames were on a roadtrip at that time but they were both injured and didn't go with the team. Gaudreau had broken his finger, dont remember what Bouma's problem was. My friend asked for a pic and Gaudreau said no problem, but just asked that he not post it anywhere because he was instructed by the team to not go out and party while they were on the road. I'm only a little older than him but even at the time I thought it was pretty stupid of him to risk being out like that, couldn't he at least take a couple of weeks off going out at the request of his employer making him a millionaire? It's not that hard. I jump through way more hoops at my job. It just rubbed me the wrong way, and a lot of stuff has piled up since that makes me think the guy is in it for the money and points but not really winning, and borderline had a bad attitude. He never added much mass to make him tougher to play against, had a notorious terrible diet, some other stuff which may or may not be true, folding in the playoffs every year...I took a lot of heat for claiming that Gaudreau wasn't a true champion that hated to lose and took things seriously, and this seems to be the ultimate confirmation. I don't hate him, don't think he's a bad guy or anything because he's definitely not and I wish him all the best. But I'm not sad to see him leave.

Don’t give me any crap about happy wife, happy life. Johnny and Meredith are essentially newlyweds and she’s a registered nurse who’s about to never work another day in her life.
One day Johnny will look back on today and the negotiations that led to this decision and probably regret it as one of the worst decisions he ever made.

Then, later that day, Gaudreau will sigh, lift his gaze to the ceiling, and collapse on his cash-stuffed mattress, thinking to himself: "Do I have a tee-time in an hour?"

LOL. I live in Arlington, right beside the Capitals practise facility (it's on top of a local mall and anyone can go and watch practises).
All the Capitals players live in Mclean or North Arlington, I doubt any of them live in Washongton DC.
