Do most of the people on this board live in a Flames bubble or something? All of our signings today are guys who have been around the league for a while now. Rooney played in 15 playoff games this year... lol.

This shouldn't be a move the Flames are in need of making at this juncture with Lewis and Lucic on the roster again this year. Just pitiful that this management group still refuses to go the Ruzicka, Gawdin or other home grown route at all on the 4th line....ever.
Lucic-Rooney-Lewis has the making of another boat anchor unit that can't keep up with the pace of play and the dollars allotted to them is simply mind boggling even if you cut Looch's salary in half.

Said he went to Coleman's wedding (teammates in NJ) and has trained with Hanifin for the last 5 years. Both had good things to say about Calgary before he signed.
Also knows Mackey.
Remembers the two beatings the Flames gave the Rangers last season. Excited to play for Darryl.

Who says Lucic is on the roster this year? I'd say that is still TBD.

Gawdin is a career AHLer, a tweener at best. He's never made a serious push for an NHL roster spot. If you're counting on him to be one of your top 12 forwards, you can kiss your season goodbye.
Ruzicka is a legitimately good player, and if he makes the roster full-time, he'll be a serious candidate for 3C. Which means you still need someone on the fourth line.

Came to CP hoping someone would know something about this guy. Instead, found that everyone came to CP not knowing anything about this guy. How does that equate to $1.3M?
"He said nothing but amazing things about the people of Calgary, and that's mostly what I asked him about is the city and the people up there. It's been all positive and he told me about some cool places to visit that I might not have knew about. Talked about the team a little bit and the guys on the team. It really seems like they have a close-knit group."

Yeah Hanifin clearly isn't a flight risk because he's American.
The guy has been a total pro since the day he was traded to Calgary. Still only 25 years old, just shy of his prime and I just don't understand why fans are so quick to include him in trade propositions. He's the type of player you want to keep, not trade.

I don't know how much Gawdin's contract is for, but I'm presuming it's under the limit to send him down where it doesn't count against the cap. Teams will do this to attract better minor league talent to help out their farm club. All the one-way means is he's making the same in the AHL as in the NHL.

Because this roster right now has too many defensemen and is short a top 6 forward, and Hanifin's trade value is probably the highest of any defenseman on the team.
Nothing against Hanifin at all. He could probably get a haul for the team in a trade.

Lucic would be gone already if he was going to be. What on earth would be the point in waiting until now to move him?
Using Gawdin would be a death sentence compared to say, Ritchie, Richardson. What sort of drop off is even possible between those 2 versus Gawdin when they're already players who can barely tread water? If you can't graduate a 4th line player every few seasons, there's a definite problem.
It's nothing more than classic Flames operation that leads to vets like these getting shot after shot over guys like Gawdin and yes, even Ruzicka, who should have been a regular skater for most of the entire season last year and certainly should be this season.
