Maybe Johnny comes back to Brad cap in hand.

When the offer you're using as leverage is no longer possible, it's no longer leverage.
Obviously still going to get paid.

Nevertheless, Johnny can point to what Calgary was offering as an illustration of what teams are willing to pay him and think he's worth.

Or just maybe the tampering everyone assumed happened didn't, and they just guessed wrong.
But it would be ironic if a team did in fact give Gross the wrong impression about what an offer would look like. Because wrong impressions are how he seems to do business.

Outside of a trade the only big thing left possible is Kadri.
I guess we just sit on our hands and see what the season brings. Have cap space available to take advantage of inevitable in season moves and to acquire picks. Like it or not, the rebuild is on.
Johnny has tarnished his legacy by pushing this to the last minute. I wish him no ill will, but I also wish him absolutely no success.

He can, but unless there's a current offer at that level it doesn't matter. Yesterday's price is not always today's price, plus the longer it takes and the more teams lock up players, the less options there are. If Philly can't clear, NJD kind of has him by the balls, relatively of course. He's still going to get 9+.

Not if that team isn't willing anymore.
Brad might say the new Flames offer is only 75% of the original AAV.
Things can change on a dime in UFA.

Don't want Johnny going to Jersey. That could be a good landing spot for Tkachuk if they decide to trade him.

So I guess Johnny's agent is still "testing"?
Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3.....

Devils & Islanders aren't going to outbid themselves. The best rumours for Islanders were still sub 10 million AAV, and if the Devils rumour was true Gaudreau would be signed already, so either Gaudreau's agent is asking for more, or the rumour was off.
Both teams know they can get a discount as being a home team, I don't see a bidding war. For the Islanders, they need a Plan B if they cannot get Gaudreau as their window is near or now.
There's effectively only 3 teams that can sign him, Islanders, Devils, Flames and he just walked on the Flames and 10 million dollars he is not going to get back.

Like I said before, probably dominos falling or....maybe they're just having a cool-off period so it doesnt look like straight-up tampering.
Like if NJD signed him for $10.2x7 at 12:01 or something.

So what's the latest? He's got offers from the Islanders and Devils and it's down to those 2?

I would be happy when Johnny is done that the Flames turned around and signed Palat and someone else.

I hope today is not going nearly as good as Johnny had thought it would, and that he is filled to the brim with regret.
I doubt it, but a guy can hope.

It does matter, because the Flames assessed how good of a player he is and what he brings to the team, and decided that 10.5x8 was worth paying him. That assessment holds weight even now because it's a measurement of the calibre of player he is and how much he would improve any team he joins.

K and my house was worth 10% more before BoC's rate hike.
Prices change.
Johnny isn't worth today what he was worth yesterday.
