I said something similar earlier today that if he leaves I hope at least the contract is a big one. If he signs for 7mil to play in Philly that makes the whole situation even #####tier

If you are offering Tkachuk 8 years at over $10MM and the captaincy and he's unsure, have some intellectual honesty.

Going to be interesting to see if this changes Tkachuks mind about signing long term here or somewhere at else via trade. If he plays in Calgary next year his numbers are going to go down.

What makes you think this?
Flames fans: ‘Our assets are junk! We need to rebuild!’
Same Flames fans: ‘We should trade all our players to accelerate the rebuild, because our assets are so valuable!’
That's without even getting into things like the concept of marginal value.

Pittsburgh is a very questionable call.
As for Avs, Mackinnon was the 2013 first overall pick. I don't think a decade is what makes for a successful tank. They got Makar because they played like garbage with a first year coach, not because they tanked.
The fact that only those 2 weak examples show up in 20+ years says it all.

Tkachuk isn't captain material....not even close.
If he wants to sulk about Jg and wants to take his toys home then let him.
I don't believe for one minute that John and Matt even like each other.

Flames bent over backwards for Gaudreau this time.
Markstrom,Tanev, Coleman and other signings are becuase the Flames don't play games or use the media to do their dirty work.
Frolik was a player coach agent thing.
Giordano was irrelevant here.
Burke brought back the respect that the organization lost with the prior GM and Treliving had upheld that standard.
Flames will get more positive mojonfrom the way they treated a star player from players in and out of the organizationz then negativity.
JG left soley because of family, and I do believe it was a hard decision for.him, thanks to the way the Flames treated him and his family in his entire time here and before signing him out of college.

Yup. And management must face the sad reality that Calgary isn't a go to destination for most players.
You have to play things wisely, you're not NY, Florida or Vegas.
Treliving is a classic nice guy who finishes last; we need to be shrewd.
If he was Johnny's agent & Gross was our GM, would this have happened?

Wait, I thought the narrative was that Treliving set this up to happen by being such a big bad meanie when he negotiated Gaudreau's last contract.
Which is it?

I don't know. His pivots have worked out pretty good in the past. He turned Dougie Hamilton into a top-pairing defenseman and a top centre. He turned his biggest UFA blunder into one of the most popular players on the team, and got a third round pick and cap savings out of it. He replaced Brodie with much more effective Tanev. He made the difficult—and right—decision of exposing the team's best defenseman to the 3xpansion draft, made a trade and a UFA signing, and the team responded with one of it's most dominating defensive performances of all time.
I am not surprised people have given up on this management group and this team, but I continue to believe. It should be a really interesting summer.

No reason to be angry at anyone, both parties were working for their own interests- Flames.thought they could have a deep playoff run with him and convince him to stay and Gaudreau had his own reasons to leave.

Johnny is a good kid. He did what 100% of posters here would have done in that same situation; take the time the CBA gives him to make a decision and then do what’s best for himself and his family. He didn’t owe Flames an answer until 10 PM.
I hope any of you angry mob get representation like Gross if you ever need an ace negotiator in your corner. That dude just schooled BT.
It coming to this was 100% BT’s fault. He had a year to sort it out and waited until a week or two before the deadline. That was pretty stupid. He gambled with the teams best asset and lost.

To be fair to the Flames I think they've tried to do that, to the extent they can. It's no accident that we've drafted and acquired a lot of Swedes and Finns, more than I can ever remember being on the team...they seem to not mind playing here. Americans, especially east coast americans and russians seem to have the biggest problem with Canada. It gets harder when it's your top top guys though, obviously passing on Tkachuk in the draft just because he's an American is not smart.
For everyone mad about this I'm fairly certain you'll see Treliving make the obvious right move and sell as high as possible now on Tkahcuk. Much more certainty on this team's direction than there was last summer with Gaudreau. If he doesn't do that then I'll agree with everyone and say he's an idiot.
