Our Roster holds more value to the rest of the NHL then it does to us. We need to rebuild right now.

No. I would have 100% told the organization. I've actually done it myself when I didn't have to because I worked for a a good organization.

Don't get it twisted no one is blaming him for wanting to go home, they are blaming him for stringing the organization along when he knew he was walking.

If the rumor was true about other players wanting out if Johnny left, then let's just tear this sucker down and rebuild. 2023 draft is supposed to be strong.

Doubt they do that though, they'll probably spend the money that was earmarked for Johnny and Tkachuk on lesser players now.
I actually don’t think so. Brad just said that the worst thing to do is to make a signing out of desperation to replace Johnny. That actually makes feel like rebuilding is on the horizon

The writing is on the wall to lose 2/3 of our top line, which accounted for a massive percentage of this team’s scoring.

For once in the last ~30 years (?), it’s time to do some proper asset management and sell while you can. We are headed for dark times if we continue to lose assets for nothing. Cannot be tolerated any longer.

Who knows, maybe 90 minutes from now Johnny says psych! Just kidding! I'll sign.

It is truly a great time to rebuild. Many of your players just had career years.

Trade them while their value is high and maybe you won't be rebuilding for five years.

Here's my rub. And whoever they had on to talk about I fully agree.

He goes down as one of the greatest Flames. Full stop.

However he leaves to a team (NJ or Philly) that will likely never win a Cup in his tenure. He will pile up points, but never leave a legacy.

Why not sign an 8 year, cement your legacy as a flame and as one of the greatest of all times and likely HOFer, best chance to win a Cup, and then sign a 1 year at the end to finish your career in your hometown.

Your kid is 8 then, still very young to develop relationships and a strong bong w family when you move back.

Anyways, I'm speaking from my idealistic view. I do understand everybody is wired different. But that's just me...

I'm just monumentally sad and disappointed right now

I hope the Devils Rangers Islanders and Flyers all line up for a massive bidding war and he ends up with something we all think is way overpaid (11.5x7?) It would take a little sting out

It was a business then, and it’s a business now…

Would we all have been as eager to bring the band back if we lost to Dallas in game 7? I’m not too certain. However, this is an opportunity for this team to choose a new direction, and perhaps even a winning one.
Great post. Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of the Flames’ life.

It sucks today but we’ll get over it.

Treliving is a failure as a GM.

Ya know...I'm trying to fish through my own life and thoughts for comparisons of when I had to make hard decisions.

Its entirely possible that he wanted to stay, but external pressures were constant and he put it off, delayed it, tried stalling....I've seen it happen. I've done it.

Maybe he was put between a rock and a hard place and was trying to squirm his way free?

I dont know. Devil's Advocate. Either way, its done now, I dont know how I'll feel about him as a player as time goes on but he's never struck me as malicious.

I guess we'll see how it all plays out.
