I was prepared to be in the fire treliving camp but the way this played out am more angry at Johnny.
The fact that Treliving ALLOWED himself to be in this situation is the problem.

Don't make the enormous mistake of handing money to Kadri.

Burning my Gaudreau jersey. I hope he enjoys wearing lead mitts in calgary every time he plays here for the rest of his career.

Not surprised. Honestly I never thought his heart was out west. Thanks for your years as a Flame. All the best to you Johnny.

Nope. Have to be a sign and trade.

That's fair. I think the Flames asset management is pretty poor as well.
Although to assume Johnny was acting in good faith was reasonable given the history.

Wouldn't it be fun if Treliving came out and pulled an old rasslin' gotcha move and announced his re-signing.

Please don't overpay for a free agent tomorrow and prolong (and worsen) the inevitable.

This thread might break a new CP record for assumptions and opinions paraded as facts.

What about Conroy's "It's done" comments? The asset management of this management group is completely mindboggling. Just come across as having no read on the team or their top assets. Shame.

Having said that, I'm not completely disappointed. Flames were offering what I would consider to be above market (but I guess we'll see in the next day or two). 8 years at that cap hit at his age......this contract would have been an anchor for at least half of it, IMO.

I still think this is a very good team. It's going to be very interesting to see what they do with Tkachuk and with the extra cap space. There are a lot of intriguing UFA pieces, Malkin, Trochu, etc. could go a long way to replacing top-line talent and adding depth.

With Tkachuk, Lindholm, Mangiapane, Tofolli, Markstrom, etc. I just don't see the team rebuilding, and nor do I see the need for one either. Bring in a high-level piece with that cap space and let Sutter do his thing for at least one more season.

Well, those of you who think Johnny wasn't worth paying 11M per year, and him leaving won't lead to a big drop off in the team's performance... good for you, you get to see your scenario play out. I really hope things work out as well as you seem to think they will. I really honestly do.

Treliving is in an unenviable position right now. No idea what he and ownership do from here, but if nothing else it will be interesting to see what they decide to do.

So, what's the backup plan Brad?!

Or did all the effort go into failing to sign Gaudreau.

You need leverage for that. Treliving had none.
