Not trading him and Chucky when we had the chance will go down as a far bigger setback for this franchise than the Iggy/Regehr/Kipper situations.
The fact ownership ever let Tre start the season without a clear message to both agents that the Flames would not be left with nothing is a monumental failure.

Gaudreau was willing to re-sign last off-season at $9 million x 8 years.
The Flames were not.

Agree about the Tkachuk description.
It’ll be very interesting to see how this plays out.

The flames are going to pay Tkachuk now for sure, he will have a borderline blank cheque. It's a give us your number or get traded conversation, they can not repeat this dumb$&*^#$ry and let another all star walk for nothing.

FFS - I think Flames need to consider blowing it up and go for the Bedard sweepstakes. Deep draft - rebuild now while they can.

I suspect the GM will say this was not about money and they offered a really competitive contract.... or something like that

And I, among others, believe he will sign his QA and walk. There are other perspectives other than your own.

Which seems to be exactly what happened. And if it was not about money and Johnny just wanted to be closer to home, he should have disclosed that much earlier than 6 hours away from the deadline. There was no need for that decision to be made in the last few hours. Really hooped the team.
I was prepared to be in the fire treliving camp but the way this played out am more angry at Johnny.

Very strange result. This is the only scenario that hurts Johnny’s legacy. Why wait until so close to the deadline, I think Flames fans have a right to be upset at that? Will be interesting to hear what BT has to say, as the only way this makes sense in my head (especially from what I had heard from a reliable source about the counter offer from Johnny, which Pat Steinberg spoke about today seemingly confirming that a counter was in fact made from 13s side) is if the Flames wouldn’t meet Johnny’s ask. Would the Flames have really walked away from the table here, because that was my worry when I heard the rumour the Edwards was involved.
Maybe this is still posturing as one last push to get flames to Johnny’s number…. Seems like a long shot, but this whole scenario really stings.
