I don't begrudge him 1 iota for dragging it out. I don't think he could rely on on vague interest from other teams solidifying until today, and CGY chose not to make their absolute final offer until today, anyways.

The Flames handcuffed themselves, and that's fine. It seems everyone bitching about that is also pre-emptively bitching that they'll waste money on other UFAs...which isn't totally mutually exclusive, but kinda close.

Yep, if I am Treliving right now, I am calling Hextall to get permission to engage with Malkin's agent.

If Tkachuk is going to be one-and-done after this season, see how much Malkin wants for 1 year (plus bonuses) and go for it. I know people are going to say just rebuild, which I could get onboard with, but I really doubt they will. In lieu of that, go after Malkin.

If things don't work out, you have one more TDL asset to trade next season. If Tkachuk signs a longer deal, then maybe offer a 2 or 3 year deal.

I believe you'd need to be on the roster by trade deadline to be eligible to be the team that can give an 8th year.

I didn't see if he could still come back in FA and still get that 8th year from us.
