So Sign him and he regresses - We're toast anyways. Not an issue. You trade and take a bad contract back and rebuild
Let him leave - We're toast IMO. Should tear it down
Sign him - You still have a lot to figure out but at least you have 1 of the 2 super stars you need to compete (And maybe MT stays and big Maybe, he gets better, he is only 24 and becomes the true 1B)

It’s a fair view. It’s an alternative solution for sure. I don’t agree but it’s fair.

Johnny signing in NJ or Philly, neither would be expected to make the playoffs for the first couple of seasons at minimum IMO.
I really just don’t see Johnny signing with either of these non-contenders. He can always force a trade to either in a couple years if he’s really hellbent on playing for them. Gives him a chance to stay competitive in Calgary in the meantime. And get that 8th year in the contract at the same time.
|
Not sure about that. I think Johnny signing in NJ makes them a wildcard team this upcoming season. I mean, Taylor Hall dragged them to the playoffs back in his MVP season, pretty sure this version of NJ + Johnny could make the playoffs lol. Hughes only played 49 games last season and was coming into his own playing at over a PPG. Had he played a full season, NJ most likely doesn’t finish as low as they did and doesn’t get the 2nd overall pick. Dougie should have a better second season in NJ next year also. Plus their young core of Hischier, Mercer, Bratt, Sharangovich, Zacha, and younger up and coming players like Holtz, Stillman, & newly drafted Nemec. NJ not only has a bright future, but a bright present. They can definitely be a wildcard team this coming season and a consistent playoff team after that. Johnny would be smart to sign there, not Philly. Philly is just a train wreck lol.

Hold on you have two premade ham and cheese sandwiches in your refrigerator? That’s serial killer behaviour sir.

Fleury -
I actually agree on a pure, on paper, running a hockey team JG is not worth 11 million.
However he is the Flames best chance to even have a chance at winning anything IMO
If you disagree I would love to hear what you would do with the 11 million to make them better for next season
(I don't mean that sarcastically, I would actually love to hear your ideas for something interesting in this thread)

Absolutely, this is a wild ride might as well enjoy it! Also this thread is devolving into chaos which is great fun.

2-3 years of Malkin @$9M for a quick retool. Deal Tkachuk or prospects or picks, dump Lucic and sign a d-man. This has no long term value aside from dealing Tkachuk for picks/prospects but allows for another short term run.

|
I don't understand, why is BT playing a risky game? He is negotiating with Johnny's camp. He hasn't been low balling Johnny, or stood is ground as the initial offer. So you are saying rumor that he initially offered $9.5M and Johnny's camp came back with $12 and he said good, done! Then he is doing a good job?

There isn't anything the team can do that doesn't result in lengthy contracts to overpriced players if that plays out. This team is a bottom 5 offence at best without Gaudreau.
All you can do is start to strip it down and wait until the next draft to start to see the pain bare fruit again.

Yeah, if you make a claim like "I only see 85 point seasons forever on" you best be ready to back it up by bringing actual stats. Instead, you come in to the thread, #### on the player with no actual evidence, and just loudly assert that your feelings on the matter are as valid as actual analysis or thought.
It's not valid, it's just stupid trash that others get into a tizzy over.

Agree. The pain of a rebuild has to be felt sometime. This years draft is a good one, why not now when we’re not remotely near Colorado or Tampa’s tier?

This isn't a sunk cost problem - you're talking about replacement value. If he does walk, how is he replaced?

First Malkin has to want to come here for 3 years deal at $9M per. Just because you offer it and snap the fingers Malkin is signed!
