Are we talking about Monahan and Lucic on the 4th?
The Flames didn't go out and try to pay that much for a 4th line
- the made a very bad call to sign Neal who was intended to be a top 6 winger. It didn't work. We all know that
- Monahan suffered a series of injuries. When they signed the deal they weren't signing a 4th liner and for most of the contract he was strong.
So yes the Neal thing was an error. But one that had a rationale behind it.
The 20/20 thing on Monahan is irritating. As if the Flames should have anticipated his injuries.

Yes, I don't think it's in the Flames best interest tying up over 20 million in two wingers. The smart move is sign Gaudreau and move Tkachuk for assets.

I think you can include 6M on the third defence pairing. Shame as I really enjoyed watching those two put the fear of god into forwards, something we have been missing for a long time. Would love to see them both back but I guess they will both be gone unless JG walks.

Yes, but the year before we had Lucic and Ryan eating up lots just to play down the lineup. Those are the contracts that kill teams.

No not really. the NHL definitely has been on my backburner ever since Bettman awarded Sportsnet the national rights.
Combined with the terrible reffing in the league and the no-hit, no-fight mentality, it's been pretty dull.
A player like Gaudreau is my last lifeline to this league. If he is gone, i'm not watching.

If the Flames lose Johnny to the Penguins, I would at least be excited about him playing with Crosby.

If Saravelli is right and this new contract was put forth and JG rejects, then he never really deep down intended to sign here.

Flyers have bought out Lindblom in the same style as the White buyout (1/3) and have created $3.3 million in cap space

The Flyers are buying out Lindbolm. If they can offload JVR that gives them enough space to offer Johnny some good $$$
