I doubt there would be much assets to get rid of Lucic. With him being owed only $1M this year, some team wanting to hit the floor cheaply would want him.

$10.5M x 8 would still be a massive offer at $84M
That would be the fourth largest active contract behind just McDavid, Doughty, and Karlsson

The other one who may want out if things don't work for Gaudreau is Sutter. At least, if I was Sutter I wouldn't want to waste my time next season.

There are some reasonably intelligent people associated with the team and it still ended up in this situation.

It is shocking to you since you clearly don't get how reality in the NHL works.

I was thinking more about AAV.
Kane and Toews also have that same contract.

Seems my view of the NHL reality is much more in line with what is happening than yours. Everything I suggested a couple years ago is playing out in a very painful way. Now run along. Go do your antiquities-based Harry Potter fan fiction and continue hiding behind your moderator status.

Frank implied they are at $10M+ right now

I mean Frank has to say something, but its pretty clear posters in this thread know as much as he does. Most of the insiders are quiet on this because there is no news coming out. They are asking other NHL guys and people who know Johnny - what do you think this means or what do you think he will do.
But they have not released anything we haven't heard here first.

Even then…10 players in the league have an AAV of $10.5M or higher
McDavid: $12.5M
Panarin: $11.6M
Matthews: $11.6M
Karlsson: $11.5M
Doughty: $11.0M
Tavares: $11.0M
Marner: $10.9M
Price: $10.5M
Kane: $10.5M
Toews: $10.5M
Anywhere between $10.5M and $11.0M over 8 years is a massive offer and one of the largest in NHL history.
Flames have clearly made a fair offer to Gaudreau if the rumors are true and it’s just up to him now if he really wants to go to PHI or NJ or stay in Calgary.

If he wants more than $9.5M I think the Flames should walk, personally. Half those names on that list aren’t worth that either. Johnny isn’t a franchise player to lead a team to the cup. He’s a first line star for sure but he’s very much a secondary guy like Marner. He’s well within his right to seek out his max value but the Flames have been trapped with bad contracts since time. Overpaying for him wouldn’t be good.

Who exactly is he secondary to in Calgary that was a 111 point team in the regular season?

I’m not sure 9.5 is the number but this is a sensible post. Losing gaudreau will absolutely suck. But if he number is too high or he doesn’t want to be here what we’re you supposed to do? Trade him before a all time great franchise season where he was a key component to getting the flames to the second round for only the third time since 1989?

Hoping Johnny signs quickly before our very own Nostradamus who gets fainting spells from the shock of his own predictions catches another case of the vapours and we lose him forever.

Gaudreau and Marner aren’t secondary players in anyway. They are foundational players.
Paying market value for franchise players is a good thing. You don’t walk away over a million bucks. The guy just had the most even strength points in an nhl season in nearly 30 years.
You hurt your team by overpaying bottom six players in free agency.
Gaudreau is a frickin unicorn in the NHL. You do whatever you can to keep him

It was definitely a great season. Was he or Tkachuk able to plow through in the playoffs? How about previous seasons? Was he consistent to deserve the franchise player tab? I’d look beyond the great regular season he just had, and simply ask if he’s the guy to lead the team down the road. I’d opine, no. And I don’t think the Flames have that guy. I’d also go further and say I think they should tank and build through the draft to get that guy.

Johnny would likely become the Flames all time scorer during this contract and potentially a hall of fame himself and potentially a cup champion.
He's entering his prime now and is arguably a top 5 forward in the NHL, Top 10 for sure.
Most importantly this organization doesn't have another player like that coming up or available to them.
You have to access the player vs his peers in the league but also how important he is to this team.

Do you ever add anything relevant to conversations, or just rely on your inane drive-bys to make yourself feel like you bring value to discourse? I've never seen one poster spend so much time fussing about others and be so oblivious to the topic in question.
