^^^ obviously there’s other GM’s who will be standing in line for Johnny’s services, I was speaking for Phillys perspective only.
So was I. If PHI puts themselves in a tough spot cap wise the sharks will circle [for their assets], but competition will ensure PHI still gets close to fair market value on whatever they have to sell

According to this he had a pelvic area injury and he re-aggravated it trying to come back. Doesn't sound like a guy expecting to go on LTIRment so they can add his replacement.
2 things that are forgotten in these negotiations:
1) I know from experience: earning USD while living in Canada rules! $11m USD = $14M CAD.
2) Its much easier to make $$$s through endorsements in Canada than it is in the US. He can tack on an extra $1m+ per year in Canada. In the US, it's more like $250k-$500k.

So what amount is heaven and earth being moved.
11 has a nice ring to it and the rumors about Edward's personally offering this amount sound like complete ____but I guess it's possible?
Next 48 hours are going to be painful for someone.
If We see Johhny leave BT needs to be gone and or M. Edward's needs to sell his share and move on because he's just made a huge cluster.
Unless there's a plan B that's super attractive???
Is there.?
Likely NOT because I've seen more stars walk away from this team since 1980 than I care to remember.
Except everything we know points to it being a money issue. Otherwise the Gaudreau camp would not even be negotiating.
Money is inevitably the key variable in this negotiation, but it doesn't mean highest bidder automatically wins. I doubt it's defined to specific numbers, but Johnny probably has different thresholds for what will convince him to choose a particular team/city. It's probably going to come down to a gut feel thing in the next 24 hours to compare CGY's final offer (#1 or 2 or somewhere in between) with their best estimate on which of #3-6 will come from which teams.
None of us know how much tampering happens. To whatever degree it does, I doubt any other teams have gotten remotely concrete on numbers until today at the earliest.
How much certainty is he willing to give up? Time will tell, but for ~350 days he's been willing to give up a lot of certainty...

Cost of living in Canada is much higher.
Johnny is not making anything close to that in Canada for endorsements. Almost no player does, on an elite few. Same for the States.
Have there been times other than Tavares and Panarin where a team that had the player, had the cap space to get a deal done, wanted to get a deal done, and failed to get a deal done for a high profile UFA? It just seems like these top players never go to UFA and leave their teams.

It doesn't happen a lot, but IIRC, Scott Niedermeyer turned down the Devils so that he could go to Anaheim and play with his brother.
But yeah, it doesn't happen a lot which makes it suck even more for the team when it does happen.

He's getting paid in USD - the cost of living is moot when you get to cash your salary in a foreign currency valued far higher than the CDN dollar.
Becoming a bigger name out east for American sports endorsements can be very lucrative. There are a lot of professional athletes that made more from endorsements than they ever did in their sports salaries. Plus, there's a prestige for that as well.

For hockey players in the USA? Doubtful unless you're one of the faces of the league and extremely marketable and even at that he wouldn't be getting a $50M Nike or Addidas contract. Johnny is neither.

I can guarantee you cost of living in Canada vs US has no effect on JG's decision.
Were talking a contract worth over 80 million USD. The general cost of housing, healthcare (I also assume the NHL has an amazing benefit package) and goods and services is irrelevant to him.

Pietrangelo (STL bungled relationship)
Bobrovsky (not sure how hard CBJ we’re trying for him)
It’s pretty rare for these kinds of guys to get past their final TDL without an extension.

Interesting how people with no first hand knowledge use words like guarantee and assure. Trump is good at that.

I, of course, didn't say it would. But the higher cost of living negates the exchange rate on his salary somewhat.
For an average guy, it’s cheaper to live in most places in the US.
For rich people, taxes and investments matter more than any cost of living. The US is probably better but as they always say, consult your tax professionals.
