Yeah he took that Tkachuk rumour from the NJ press article about a month ago that proposed NJ dealing the 2nd for Tkachuk.
Tkachuk is worth more then the 2nd OA. There is a + and + there.

If it isn't a money thing and he wants to be home, then nothing can be done and he earned the right as a UFA. But if it isn't about that and simply money, you up the offer to 10.75 M+. I understand there are limits to each player but you can replace 3rd and 4th liners and cut a M or 2 there but to replace your best player with a downgrade (there isn't a player on the market who is as good as him), is unacceptable if this is only a money thing. To "overpay" by a small margin for those who feel that number would be an overpayment has to be done.
I'm not saying I am right, I am just saying this is my opinion and you can't lose your 29 year old best player (which in turn could lose your 2nd best player) by 1 M.

I have no doubt in my mind Treliving started with that offer to test the waters. If Johnny's camp comes back with a counter offer, then you know he wants to come back to Calgary, and it's just more money he wants. If they don't counter offer, then that's more worrying, as it means he's leaning towards not coming back. At that point, the only thing you can do is entice him with more money to see if it would change his mind.

Why are we wasting assets on Gritty when we already have Scorch. Dammit Treliving

The answer is maybe yes, but it's likely a number that everyone would have hated.

I have it on good authority that Gaudreau's camp has countered today, however at closer to $11MM/year. That's all I will say.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
^ Should be a done deal then. Gaudreau wants to stay at around 11M? Take it.

Sign the deal. $11M x 8. You don't lose your best player over anything near $1M annually.

So he essentially believes he can get 12.5M a season on the open market. If that's the case - good luck Johhny boy.

Where does it say there has been no discussion? On the contrary, Treliving also goes on to say that "we continue to work at it." It sounds to me like talks are ongoing in one form or another.

haha what?
The Flames will sign that.
Pinder/Steinberg were saying yesterday that the Flames would probably even go as high as 12 to re-sign him because the alternative fallout is much worse.

11? Let's say they meet at $10.5 - who cares?? Do it! So we have to give up a 4th line plugger salary to make that happen - who gives a ####.

If it's 11MM AAV for a few years, sure.
I don't want to have him getting 11MM at 36yrs old... if he was a few years younger then fine.
Alterative fallout worse or not, too much money & term for me.
