Maybe I'm remembering this wrong, but I feel like Tre had similar comments about keeping Dougie Hamilton going into that year's draft, and that he was a phenomenal player, etc. and then soon after we got that blockbuster trade with Carolina.
I might be totally out to lunch, but I'm expecting something to happen today/tomorrow in terms of getting a first rounder or making a splash with a trade. Tre will always say the right things in the media, but this doesn't feel like a draft where we can just sit on his hands and hope for the best.
If we sign both JG and MT and Tre works his magic with Lucic and/or Monahan to clear space then I'm totally on board with running it back next year as others have said. But if he's getting the indication that one or neither of JG or Tkachuk are on board with the Flames plans, then I hope we see a trade for NJ's 2nd overall ++

But the players they want to move are the exact type of players they'll want to start over with. Its crazy to me. Move Kane & Toews. Why sign Seth Jones? Its bizarre.

They wanted to compete now and Jones was going to be a bridge between the old guard and the new guard.
...except Jones suck and the new guard doesn't look very good. Debincat is good, but are he and Dach the backbone of a championship quality team? No. They need those Championship cornerstone, and Dach and Debrincat likely help keep them nicely in that 6-12 spot draft-wise rather than the required 1-3 spot.

Kane and Toews will be rentals this year. I believe they only have 1 year left on their contracts.
Whoever gets Kane at the deadline will get massive help for a cup run. He can still play at an elite level and is still a superstar.
Not sure why they are moving on from DeBrincat. He is 24 years old and had 78 points in 82 games. Chicago should be trying to get guys like this, not moving them.
They will get picks/prospects if/when they move Kane and Toews at the deadline. They can use that for a rebuild.

Stan Bowman was a terrible GM. He rode the coattails of what Dale Tallon left him.

It sounded nothing at all like that. It's a full court press from the doom and gloom crowd now. Johnny is leaving for nothing, Tkachuk will take his QO and then walk for nothing, then the team will move because they have no arena and no stars, then Putin will capture Calgary and all citizens will be forced to work in slave mines, ect....

Maybe they see the folly of paying a diminutive winger like a cornerstone. He’s got a 9M QO path next season, too…
