I'm sure Johnny realizes he's not going to get significantly higher than those figures. I just find it unlikely they are trying to squeeze every last penny out of the Flames.
So ya I think where him and his wife want to start their family is likely the biggest factor and if they felt Calgary was the place they wanted to do it then the deal would likely be done already. It feels like they want to see what the options out there are and then they can weigh all of those options.

The negotiation process is ongoing. Millions of dollars are on the table. Most certainly, both sides are putting up resistance.

The Flames were a top 3-5 team in the entire league by goal diffential / fancy stats / betting odds. That's not the kind of roster you burn down -- thats a roster you build on. If you lose Gaudreau, use that cap-space to get a replacement superstar. With Lucic / Monahan possibly freeing up cap space, things are looking up for this team, with or without Johnny.

Yup Cal Makar is eager to go home….just wait lol

Robert Thomas is the player I'd want from the Blues; way more than Kyrou

And the player the Blues would not want to give up. For the very reasons we would like to get him.

Definitely buyer beware on Kadri. Good player but he will never come close to repeating those numbers and his contract should be based on a 31 year old 50-60 point player.

If you're lucky enough to draft a Matthew Tkachuk, you don't turn around and trade him for another draft pick. That's like winning a million dollars on a horse race, and then putting that million dollars right back onto another horse in the next race.
Who's available this year at #2? Logan Cooley? Juraj Slafkovsky? We're gonna trade Tkachuk for one of those two? I'm not even sure I'd trade him for Shane Wright.

Rumors abound that Montreal might be going the route of Slafkovsky, so Wright would be available at #2. Agreed though. Best case scenario is we develop a player to the caliber of Tkachuk with that pick.

Really don’t think Thomas is going anywhere especially because the idea would be to pair Thomas and Tkachuk (who I believe are also really good friends). But I could definitely live with Kyrou and Neighbours and a pick if it had to happen.

You don't think the Blues would part with Kyrou for a local boy 100+ point power forward not even in his prime? Of course they would.

as others have said, I don't think they'd part with Thomas. But yeah, such a package with Kyrou would be in the right ballpark, I think.

|
The team can avoid a tear down rebuild if they add pieces to help bridge the old from the new. In 3-4 years Wright or Slafkovsky may be entering the stage of being elite NHLers To take over as the alpha of the team as Johnny starts to wind down.
Strictly from a cap perspective I think it makes a lot of sense as well having a guy on an ELC vs having to pay another guy right away. The Flames are screwed for cap space so getting the pick helps alleviate the cap crunch

The Flames just traded away a bunch of picks and have an incredibly tough time finding cap space to keep Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Mangiapane. Adding the 2nd pick (+ by the way) would help afford them the ability to keep Johnny and Mangiapane long term while adding a top prospect to the organization. It really only truly intrigues me if Wright is available at that pick.
Flames are trading Tkachuk only if there is no path to a long term deal.

Just like what may happen with Johnny though Vinny - I'd rather not have that dollar roll away with nothing in return.

If keeping all three isn't realistic then I think you need to assess:
Johnny + Tkachuk + Assets from trading Mangiapane for $20M
or
Johnny + Mangiapane + Assets from Trading Tkachuk for $16M
I actually think there might be a scenario where we are better in the second option with the assets from the Tkachuk trade and less spent on the cap.

Kyrou was a PPG player last year and is one of the fastest skaters in the league. He's probably a dollar himself.
Honestly if you got him and two other pieces for Tkachuk I would do it. Speed kills in this league and the Flames could use a burner like Kyrou.
