Could they technically let Hatch go a couple innings in game 2 and then have Gausman come in relief if his ankle is 100%

Tough luck with the earlier injury to Gausman. Jays still have plenty of time and offense to win this but it wouldn't be 5-1 right now if Gausman were still in.

I don't think it works like that, pitchers have a routine and throw on certain days. Even a rain delay shuts the starter down.

Edit: sorry, I am a bit behind, and Chapman took care of that issue pretty quickly

He threw so few pitches, if he is 100% healthy, there is more than enough time to redo his routine and re-prepare him for the 2nd game.

They won't do that. But they certainly could.
