totally random post, but Canada day weekend in Toronto, made me think back to this game that was 25 years ago yesterday. First game ever between the Jays and Expos (in regular season). Hentgen was the reigning AL Cy young winner and Pedro was enroute to winning the Cy that year. Both went the full 9 innings with Pedro getting the nod in a 2-1 win. Vladdy Sr. hit a homer
I was at the game- a lot of fun.

Man, me and girlysports bet is really coming down to a fun race now (If they reach 60 wins before 45 losses I get $200, if they reach 46 losses before 60 wins she gets $100).
16-11 wins it for me. I feel like it'll come down to a hot or cold streak in the next month on this bet.

Considering how cold the collective bats were for the first 6 weeks or so, the following stats may surprise a lot of people (they sure surprised me). Going into today's action, the Jays batting stacks up like this:
AVG: 3rd
OBP: 2nd
SLG: 2nd
OBP: 1st
(for MLB)
IMO, runs are a more important stat, as that is what the purpose of the offense is. And for runs scored, the Jays rank 6th, though if you factor-in games played, they are 4th.
All in all, pretty damn impressive how quickly they have pulled the numbers back up to where they should be.

Not only would an injury be horrific news, but the timing is also awful. If he doesn't continue, the bullpen has to go 7 innings, then Hatch starts game 2 of the double-header.
