The 2016-17 Avs were the only team since the introduction of the shootout to finish with less than 50 points in an 82 game season.
It's funny, they finished 30th overall by 21 points, lost all three draft lotteries, but still ended up getting the best player in the draft at 4th overall. I wonder if they still would have picked Makar if they had one of the top 3 picks that year?

Maybe Corey Perry should be signed by the Flames just so the Flames can get to the finals. Still better than getting knocked out in the first 2 rounds

Makar also won the Hobey Baker. Not an NHL accolade, but...

Their first round draft history is funny. Duchene the Hishon. Landeskog then nada. Mackinnon then Bleakly. Rantanen then Jost. Makar then Kaut. Then Byram (and Newhook).

last place team that already had MacKinnon, Rantanen, Landeskog, Compher, plus the likes of Duchene, E Johnson, Barrie
I hadn't appreciated just how Flamesy that team was though - Iggy, Comeau, Bourque, Zadorov, Colborne

He's not a UFA. He's taking Tampa to the cup again next year for another loss.

Meanwhile, on The Jeff Marek Show, Friedman was discussing the Conn Smythe and how he struggled with not putting McDavid on his ballot. WTF? And no, I am not kidding.

What a beautifully constructed roster. That Landeskog interview was something else. Congrats to the Avs.

Come on… he did not actually say this did he? That is unforgivable if true lol
My god, the blinders RSN has on McDavid is wild.

am going back a long time here, I can't actually find the Smythe voting for 85-86, but the leading scorers that playoffs were Federko and Gilmour (both future HOFers that lost in round 3) , then Gretzky (lost in round 2) tied with Mullen (also both future HOFers)
Roy won the Smythe- and I'm guessing the conversation (although Roy was a no-brainer) would have fallen around Roy, Mullen, Naslund, Vernon, MacInnis, Lemieux, Reinhart etc- guys who played in the finals
I can't imagine voters figuring out how to fit in Federko or Gretzky

Please send a clip. It’s that ****ing hard to believe he would say that. Pretty sure that’s evidence there he gets paid a bonus any time he mentions Lord Connor

Honestly if I'm Nikita Kucherov and I come to the bench after I broke my stick with 20 seconds left in a 1 goal game that's also an elimination game for the Stanley Cup I'd lose my #### too.
The linemates and trainer have one job in that scenario and that's to get you a stick ASAP. The fact it appears that he has to tell the trainer to go get the stick would be infuriating.

Yes, I heard them down here in Castle Rock as well. The good news is that once Broncos training camp starts, the bandwagon fans won't remember this.

You can tell by the reaction of the trainer that he knew he messed up. The bench looked chaotic though and I imagine it was hard for the trainer to actually see what was going on.
