He wouldn’t sign an offer sheet for more than two years. Then he’d risk Winnipeg matching and being stuck there.

Seems like Scheifele would be one of the players to move out if they want to improve the locker room culture but with Dubois wanting out they can't afford to let him go as they would be left without their top 2 centers.

Right? He was the guy they were trying to unload to make space. I know they did the Dadanov/Weber thing but that isn’t enough.

Well Dubois is an impactful player and there may be teams that a 2-year deal fights in well with their salary structure. Could be two cracks at a cup before your star players want a big raise

Verbal agreement though...they don't need to afford it yet
knowing Vegas they will sign him to that deal and trade him the next day lol

The Reilly signing can be made official after Weber goes on LTIR to start the season, but they have to re-sign their RFAs, and they are still under 2.7M.
I think that Karlsson might be on the block, nothing else makes much sense.

I’m sure they’d love to shed Martinez, though he’s still a useful guy. But yeah Karlsson (and get Stephenson a regular 2C spot). I wonder if they think Patches is at the end of his rope.

Do we know who leaked the info?
Could just as easily be that he quietly informed the Jets of this, so they leaked it to shield themselves from any criticism for signing him to a deal that goes to UFA and get some suitors in line for a trade.
It's not like it's going to tank his value. It's still two years, and he's obviously willing to sign somewhere, as it's not like he's just going to retire.

Forsberg offered an 8-year deal by the Preds.
Sounds a lot like the Gaudreau negotiations.

It sounds like they are trying to lowball him. I wonder what their offer is. I doubt he signs for anything less than $7.5 million AAV. Probably asking over $8 million is my guess.

I wonder how much the "other guy" also being available could impact decisions to go to UFA or not...if both JG and FF hit UFA it might hurt their values a tiny bit, or at least add more uncertainty about whether they are choice #1 or not for their desired teams.
FF is 1 year younger, plays a 200ft game, and most importantly will be looking at a lower AAV (because JG is still the better player, and also more durable). Certain teams may prefer one guy over the other - presumably any team looking for a major upgrade on the wing is looking at both of them.
But if 1 of them re-signs, then the other will definitely be the prettiest girl at the dance and have less risk by going to UFA.

If the Flames were to sign him they could have Filip, Philp, and Phillips in the organization.
Holy Phfluck!

Good point. Forsberg has an incentive not to sign until he knows what Gaudreau will do, and vice versa.
It wouldn't surprise me if they're playing chicken – each one's agent advising him not to make a move until the other guy signs.

Or maybe one, or both, of then want to play for new teams and can't sign for another few weeks.

Nope, I have no clue who leaked it and while maybe the Jets have done that sort of thing before (again, I'm unaware) I can't see a market like Winnipeg playing games like that with their players especially one who they gave up a top star to obtain, a star who also didn't like the city. Its not in their best interests to potentially dissuade stars from playing their just to save face.
I also don't believe you get your best deal if you leak that the player you want to move has already told you he isn't staying.

Not that I want to defend my hometown of Winnipeg, but I have also been here for 20 years. If you have a cottage and live in the right pockets of Winnipeg, the city is fine. In some ways, the city has much more personality than Calgary and more events in the summer. That being said, I left Winnipeg for a reason. Calgary just registers across the board better, but other than Vancouver and Toronto, Canadian cities can't compete with major U.S. markets, lower tax regimes, and sunny destinations where you can largely live in the community without being bothered.
There is definitely something wrong with the Jets' dressing room, and maybe Scheifele and others need to go, including Dubois who seems to be a consistent malcontent.

Yeah, Dubois seems like a bit of a whiner or in your words well put, malcontent.

Winnipeg could rebuild really well if, with the exception of Connor, they tore it down.
