I still don't know how they gave up back to back breakaways in the third period, just pathetic

You never take your foot off the gas in the playoffs and the Flames simply did just that.

A road trip is just what the boys need right now. 3-1 coming home.

McDavid's interference was a no-brainer call that they got right again.

Toffoli's goal that was called back was just blatantly wrong, because the puck was loose the entire time and not jammed out from under Smith illegally. Just a terrible early whistle that would have seen a 4-4 score instead.

So so so true. And why didn't they review Toffoli's goal like the did the Oilers first non-goal?

Agreed.

The fact that the BOA in the playoffs can make you tune out speaks volumes about the NHL's current state. It's suffering. And the coverage of it is even worse.

This game didn't feel hard-fought like it should've felt. It felt random, and unpredictable, and an all out gong-show. It had no pulse because it was constantly changing and in flux.

Chaos and upheaval of reffing affecting the Flames.
Absence of the structure that Tanev provides.
Marky getting outplayed.
Not a recipe for success.

When they were reviewing I actually thought they might overturn the whole thing, but it was just player number. Honestly, a guy sliding into your stick while on his knees is not a high stick.

I really hate when they lose to the Oilers. Especially the way they did tonight. They made them look good. Theyre not. No way the Oilers should have any business winning games.

Maybe 3’ tall moto shouldn’t skate his face into a waist height stick.

Flames to don’t sweep, ever. Wouldn’t be exciting enough. Reffing was a disaster both ways. On to the next.

Based on the flames playoff performance so far, I don’t see us winning 3 in a row. Which means at least 6 games. Even winning back to back seems like a stretch given the lack of consistency. Need to steal a game if we want to avoid going kong this series.

You don't bench a Vezina finalist in the playoffs unless he's horrid or hurt. Markstrom was ok tonight, not spectacular, but not the reason they lost.

He's starting Game 3, no doubt.
He will definitely start. Sutter won’t take Markstrom out even if he lets in 10. Edmonton will be happy to see Markstrom in net. Oilers own Markstrom. He has let in 25 goals in his last 6 appearances vs Edmonton. Vezina or not, that’s hot garbage from any viewpoint.

Mostly disappointed in the Flames defence. So leaky. Totally uncharacteristic. They need to wake up and join the series.

Flames started out great, but the penalty parade sucked away their momentum and the game turned into a special teams battle after that.

Oilers certainly had some help from the officials tonight, but the Flames shot themselves in the foot in the 3rd period and blew the game because of dumb mistakes and bad D coverage. That's two games in a row now where they've been way too loosey goosey at times and have gotten away from their structure. Game 1 they got away with it because every shot ended up in the back of the Oilers' net. But unfortunately it caught up with them tonight and it cost them.

If Tanev is out long term, they'd better get their defensive game sorted out quickly, or this series will end up going the distance. They don't have an answer for McDavid, so they're gonna have to do their best to keep things 5 on 5 and just beat the snot out of the other 3 Oiler lines.

Oh Backlund, if only you had scored on that breakaway to make it 3-0. I feel like the Oilers would have folded up the tent if that had gone in. They had absolutely nothing going at the time.

Lol

Same dumb rule was applied on both goals.

Does anyone have a link to a replay for the high stick call?

Markstrom’s stats against EDM this year are concerning.

Regular Season - 4GP, .884 sv%, 3.54 GAA
Playoffs - 2GP, .830%, 5.50 GAA

Reflective on team play as well but definitely not a trend you want to see repeating for the rest of the series.
