probably mentioned somewhere along the way but Oettinger's save percentage is 2nd highest ever in a playoff season (minimum 5 games)

https://records.nhl.com/records/play...season-playoff

Bernie Parent is first. top 9 is 7 HOFers, Oettinger and Marty Turco

Markstrom this year is 21st (of course his playoff still ongoing)

Not sure if that stacked up well in the first round. I know to a certain extent the Flames really shut them down, but at some point you have to balance the boring, defensive style with giving your players the ability to produce.
The fact that the Flames made the 2nd best o-line look non-existent to where they were split up after being effective all season should tell you a lot about the Flames and their team structure.

I know it was harder in the last couple games with d-men getting beat up but it is still an impressive feat.

Now do it to McNugget.

I can laugh about it now, but I think I've we saw one of the luckiest plays of all time just a few minutes before the win.

That rebound lying perfectly on the ice and curling down JO's stick from the blade to the knob to keep the puck away from Hanafin shooting on an open net...I mean wtf.

14 hours later and I'm still in shock. What an insane series. Dear lord, please never let the Flames meet Oettinger in a playoff series again.

The thing is, I have a feeling he's going to be playing a whole lot of them the next decade or so.

Too funny. Cuz my wife asked me if I wanted to go for ice cream during the first period. I was so down about the game and it was our first nice Sunday night of the spring so I figured what the hell. Got home just in time to see them tie it at 2.

Yup, outside of a couple chances, Pavelski, Robertson and Hintz were completely invisible, and I wonder if it was because of the style Dallas played. All 3 players had career years, including 40 goal scorers, and they produced next to nothing all series.

To a certain extent, they seemed to move towards zero offense, go for lucky bounces and ride their goalie even if it meant allowing 60+ shots per game.

From the outside looking in, not exactly sustainable, but it got them to game 7 OT, so to a certain extent it worked.

Just saw footage of the bench when Gaudreau scored. Sutter barely reacts at all, just uncanny really.

Watching the third period with less stress, it really stands out to me how amazing Markstrom was in that stretch. And really the whole series of course. But the guy played one of the best series of goaltending I've seen as well.

True.

The Flames did an amazing job of shutting them down, but Dallas also changed their style in the playoffs.

Those 3 guys were completely lost all series and couldn't get going.

Markstrom was unreal and made quite a few game savers. His performance is being slightly overlooked because Oettinger was so unbelievable. But some of the Markstrom saves reminded me of Vernon from 1989. Clutch goaltending.

the 2 highest with 20+ games are Quick in 2012 ( hmmm) and Giguere in his remarkable 03 run

For a moment it looked like he was going to head off to the dressing room like, "Hey no big deal, been there done that, we won let's move on" but then realized that it was the end of the series and therefore needed to stay to congratulate the opponents!

I think they knew they'd get rolled if they opened up at all so they want all in on playing tight defense.

They were talking about how tired the players were after the game....please!

Players never had to hit the red lot before the game. Consume 4-5 beer during the game. Scream at the top of there lungs for 4 hours. Walk the red mile at midnight and then be up at 6am for work.

Pfffft

What...a...night...that...was on the Red Mile. What a perfect ending to an absolutely spectacular game 7.

2 very much maligned stars in Tkachuk and Toffoli finally break out of their goal scoring ruts. Oettinger with a legendary goaltending performance that’ll go down in history. Johnny gets the “A” and fittingly ends the series with a perfect (necessary) bar down dart. It’s what makes sports the greatest single form of entertainment and drama and this game had it all.

I was nervous every moment, living and dying on every shot, but so glad it ended the way it ended because it was truly one for the ages for this franchise. It’s just what the city and fanbase needed after such a miserable 2021 season and couple of years for that matter.

Hopefully everyone gets geared up for round 2 because the BoA 31 years in the making could end up being a riot, literally.

That year, the Flyers won the Cup and Parent took the Conn Smythe.

I tried to find the best save percentage in a single series, but came up empty.
