I feel like Toffoli is just waiting to break out. He's been getting chances, has taken some good shots, but he's getting no results.
Tkachuk could have a broken hand. If so, and it's the result of that fight with Klingberg, well that's a big win for Klingberg and Dallas in the series. Tkachuk hasn't shown up so far and that's a big blow to the team.

I don’t get the people saying this is 2006 all over again.
Flames have looked really good and really different from anytime since 2004. The way they are playing is actually like night and day to be honest. If you think this is like 2006 you’re just not watching these games or you don’t remember very well.
This isn’t like 2006, 2015, 2019 or 2020. This is like 2022. And they’re going to win FFS, have confidence this is a great team.

If it's the same result as previous efforts, does any of it really matter? They still didn't get over the hump. They just tried harder. Had a better chance.
I'm in no way writing them off until the final whistle bit that iceberg is looming large now.
They better win. I want to see the success. Desperately.

And, whether we want to think it or not, winning or losing will dictate what this team looks like next year.
Good news is this can all be remedied by a win on Sunday. Game 7 will be franchise defining.
|
Winning a single series will not be franchise defining. This team is expected to make a deep run. A bounce in the second round will be viewed as only slightly less bad as a bounce in the first.

The one thing about 2006 that is similar is that most of the breaks have been tilted to the side of their opponent. Goals not coming easy to the Flames like the 2006 series.

I was at game 7 in 2006, and I remember it well. For me it still stands as the most shameful and embarrassing playoff performance I've ever seen from the Flames. No urgency, no heart, no defensive awareness, and just...bad. They played like they didn't give a crap.
This year's Flames team is night and day from those sad-sack losers from 2006. They've been the better team in every game in this series except last night. These guys know they didn't play well in game 6, and I have no doubt they're gonna come out flying in game 7.

What? Yes it does matter. For me personally it’s just about all that matters. This is a philosophical question. For you, maybe the only thing that matters is winning.
For me, I mostly care about if the team puts their heart on their sleeve and works their balls off and at least does their very best as often as humanly possible. Blocks shots, hits, plays hard, digs. Sweats. That’s what matters to me. If they lose, hey, it’s a 32 team league now. You have to wait a half lifetime to see them win. What I want is to see them try. If they do that Sunday and lose, so be it, but I will support that. If they show up and DONT try, like 2006, then you can come out and say it’s like 2006. Have you seen that so far? I haven’t.

So assuming Zad and Tanev are out and the Flames dress 12/6, does Ritchie or Carpenter come in? The face off situation seems pretty dire so maybe another centre could help? Sutter doesn’t seem to have much trust in the player, though.

Anyone acting like the Flames aren't showing up isn't watching closely enough, IMO. The top 10 reasons this series isn't already over are all Jake Oettinger. It should've been 3-0 Flames after the first.
Carey Price won a Hart Trophy in 2015 for having a .933 save percentage. Oettinger has a .931 on just high-danger scoring chances this series. It's taking one of the greatest goaltending performances in history for this series to be tied.
Flames in 7.

Sitting two centres and playing a winger at centre who has performed abysmally at that position would be the work of a madman.

One thing that is obvious is they are missing Monahans faceoff abilities. This is a puck possession series for sure.

As per Haynes, Sutter 7-3 in game 7s. Tomorrow's will give him the most coaches game 7 in league history.
As the hours go by after last night, more excited and positive the Flames will come out on top and, most of this emotional roller coaster we have been on, we won't have to ride again until R3.

But ironically Monahan isn't a puck possession player.

The Flames should win this series. The only reason Dallas is in this is because they’re getting absolutely insane results from their goalie, and that also doesn’t diminish how great Markstrom has been for the Flames. This is the best and 2nd best goalie in the playoffs this year.
…at the end of the day though, if the Flames fail tomorrow? I have zero clue what they do going forward, because in the end it’s still just a complete and utter failure.

I think if they play their best and still come up short that would be the worst possible result.
The team that couldn't do it. Many think they've been an underachieving franchise that has wasted too many years of their core or had the wrong core. If they give it their all and lose then they're just not good enough and where do you go from there?
If they come out flat and lose that's easy as a fan to accept and move on.
They need to win to show the fans and themselves they can win.

What do you mean by that though? He is great at faceoffs, ergo he gets his team the puck.

Honest question, how do we do this with two regular D out? Who slots in? Makes me much more nervous than Chucky playing like garbage
