What happened to the ‘goal scorer’? I thought his shots were weak and inaccurate last night

Playing against Dallas is absolutely agonizing. I hope to God the Flames get over the finish line by game 5 because I don't know if I can't stand to watch 6 or 7 games of this. They were unlucky not to have scored at least 1 last night but some adjustments definitely needed.
Maybe recombine a top 5 5-on-5 line in the league in Mange-Backlund-Coleman. Coleman also needs more time. Might switch out one or 2 from the fourth line. If Toffoli keeps playing the same he will score.
It's highly unlikely that the Flames get shut out again next game if they play the same way or better, and it's highly unlikely that the Stars will score more than 1 or 2 goals if they play the same way.
It's going to be ugly hockey this round.

I honestly haven't been a fan, I think he hurts the middle six transition game more often than not.
But last night he was around the puck, physical, had some chances, ... one of the more noticeable forwards for me. Seemed quicker.

Give the Star's credit, they're playing 90's dead puck era hockey to a T, clogging up the middle, lots of back pressure on the puck, and ensuring that their goalie really only needs to make the first save and see's it. Frankly the Flames are playing the same way, and its stiffling hockey.
How did you counter this type of hockey in the 90's. Frankly you dumped cross ice, and forechecked the crap out of your opponent. But you also had to play that counter punch hockey and hope for a high scoring percentage because not a lot was going to happen.
Right now this series is equivalent to a boys and girls first prom where they're standing across the room from each other waiting for someone to make the first move.
Frankly the Flames are a big heavy team built for an aggressive game and aggressive forecheck. We say it in game one, but the Flames were really passive and we'ren't all that physical last night.
I don't think this is Dallas' series to lose right now, certainly not the Flames. I really think that while we can look at the first line, its the middle six that's the problem for the Flames.
What this team needs is

First round jeopardy man, why do you think the first round is the round of upsets. Because one or two bottom rung teams, just clog up the ice against the higher rated team, and don't try to match chances and it comes down to a low scoring painful series decided by one goal.

I’m not conflating that with years prior, but the complete lack of offensive production is a problem. Settling for perimeter play is not going to win these games.
Dallas is the worst team in the playoffs, and through two games we’ve played right into their hands. Dallas is more than happy to let us fire pucks at the net from the point and the boards with how pathetic our net front presence has been. The Flames need to begin dictating the play, not comfortably playing into what Dallas wants.
Hopefully Sutter can get the guys playing the right way tomorrow, because through two games? Nowhere near good enough.

I always find the adjustments interesting.
Between periods, but especially between games.
The Flames get a bounce last night (not saying they deserved one) and have a 2-0 series lead and it's all about what Dallas has to do differently because their slogathon isn't working.
Instead it's on Calgary to break free.
Was never going to be easy, never is ... Nashville with a nobody took Colorado to overtime last night, only two series are 2-0.
I liked Gaudreau's demeanor after the game. "We're fine"
Great ... lets see it!

Oh boy, it's a fragile fan base right now. And given our history of recent playoff performance and the regular season we just had, it's probably justified. But blaming the fans? And the rink? Those are new ones for me...
I'll say this: Dallas has scored ONCE in this series that hasn't been into an empty net, and now it's their series to lose? I'd say they're a bit lucky to be coming out with a split; while they've stuck to their game plan I think it's reasonable to say we've had the edge in play for the most part. Just need to get some better shots on Oettinger and maybe a deflection or bounce that finds its way onto a Flames stick.
Unfortunately, if Dallas is going to play defence first and clog up the middle of the ice, we're going to have to get used to playing these tight, low scoring games. Sutter won't mind that but it's not exactly the greatest hockey to watch...

Lots of whining and bad takes in here.
And to those complaining about the crowd - buy a ticket and go make some noise yourself, or shut the #### up. Whining about the waive. Whining that they don't make enough noise. Whining about people that didn't dress the way you want them to, or because they bought a gold chain. JFC.
It's the playoffs. Both teams are doing whatever they can to win. W's don't come easy. That's why the Stanley Cup Playoffs are the best in sports. Tomorrow is another game, and I expect the Flames will be ready.
Some of you need to grow a pair. And grow up.

This is Dallas hockey for sure. It's good that the next two are on the road. Hopefully the team can get some traffic in front of the Dallas net and the Flames could sure use a bounce or two.
Dallas is blocking a ton of shots but I can't remember a single block where the puck has deflected on the Dallas net or a Flames players stick. That luck can't last a whole series.
I think Sutter is probably liking what he is seeing for the most part. Under 40 shots against after two games. I think once the puck starts going in for Calgary the Dam will burst and we will see the offence get going.

We've lost close games and Dallas hasn't been that good either but for me the difference is Johnny. I don't know how many times I've heard a big hit in any game where the camera has moved up ice but the player who made the pass got plastered very late off camera. This is playoff hockey and I'm not complaining but as soon as the playoffs start the Refs let late hits go. As soon as the playoffs start Johnny knows this and he starts to play scared. If he thinks he might take a big hit, he is getting rid of the puck immediately. We will not do any damage in the playoffs without the puck on Johnny's stick. It was all regular season.
If we have any chance we will need depth scoring, play great defence and get some PP goals. But the Stars arguably as one of the worst teams in the playoffs. If we were playing a good team I'm thinking it will be one of those series where we completely get outmatched

I want to preface this by saying that while I'm not an NHL defenceman, I play LD in EA Sports NHL so I know a few things about getting the puck out of my zone deep.
And I wouldn't try this stupid play in a million years when there's 2 easy options for me otherwise!!

A lot of people wanted this matchup, thinking they were a weak team.
But they are a veteran team that knows what it takes in the playoffs. They have had a lot of playoff success in the last few years, and they have gotten it by playing tight defense and employing the trap.
The way to beat the Flames, all year, was to clog up center ice and clog up their transition game. Dallas does that perfectly.
It's a terrible matchup for this team. But they'll pull through.

Adjustments will be made, goals will be scored on both sides, and we shall prevail in the end.

This is how I saw it too. Dallas had 5 guys back and were creating little to nothing on the rush or the forecheck. Zero event hockey and looked like the dead puck era, dreadful to watch. Flames get one bounce and they win that game.
Sutter will make some small changes. Nothing to panic about.

I still have no idea what he was thinking there. It's an unfortunate play magnified by the fact it led to a game winning goal in the playoffs but that's what the playoffs are all about. The great plays and bad plays are all magnified. Just have to move on and focus on the next game.

There had to be at least a half a dozen shots from the point, with traffic, that got tipped, and the tip went wide or over the net. At some point, they'll get some puck luck.
But they need to get to the net more, as well.

Frustrating game to watch last night, but I'm still confident the Flames will find a way to get out of it. Credit to Dallas, they really locked it down last night, but Flames still had the better chances. I won't be too worried unless Flames lose game 3. There's plenty of time to panic then.

I think the Flames will pull it together on the road. We've been a great road team all season and ai thought Dallas faded as the game went on. I like our chances in this series.

Let’s ease off the entitled fans are at fault narrative as it’s just disingenuous deflecting. Fans aren’t parents mustering up a cheer for their kids who need the incentive.
The lackluster performance is on the group of athletes being paid millions to succeed, it’s not on the fans for not adequately providing motivation.
I will follow this team to the end, but if they want me to believe they are anything more than just regular season heroes, they will have to demonstrate it, until that time I just accept the reality that the team I support is mediocre at best when it comes to the playoffs.
