Omg that tweet " I f!@#$%^ told you#)" was delicious to wake up to this morning.
Even better is now we will see the pouty sad grimace of Smith on the bench with his hat pulled down over his eyes so we don't see the salty salty crocodile tears that sit there waiting to spill down that fugly mug.

I'm sure this was mentioned but Oiler fans constantly saying the Flames have "golden horseshoes up their asses" and then they get handed that Draisaitl goal off the broken stick on an absolute silver platter.

Lmao so so good.

Can some of the resident oilers fans weigh in on where this game ranks in terms of “closest playoff losses ever”?

By a strange coincidence they've all been called away for work, to regions with no internet access, and won't be back until October.

One thing we can’t argue is how perfect for each other all these oiler players are.

Look at Hyman on the 4th goal…. What in the absolute ####!? When the puck is turned over he continues to drift backwards into the neutral zone, and stays outside the blue line for almost the entire sequence!!! Unbelievable.

On the behind the net can replay just gaze out to centre ice and you’ll see him wishing he was still in Toronto.

I'm surprised at the lack of talk about the King's 3rd goal.
McDavid does his patented, try to do it all himself by going through 2 defenders, lose the puck and watch it go the other way for a goal.
At least on that one he managed to get back into frame to kind of half heartedly poke his stick at the guy with the puck 10 feet ahead of him while he scores.

It wasn't even a particularly fast break the other way, and yet somehow, 2 of the Oilers forwards didn't even make it to the blueline.
The more you watch it the better it gets, Nurse doesn't even try to engage with Roy who is going straight to the net, and kind of pretends he wants to block a shot, but anything that hits him is going 3 feet wide
That's the new commitment to team defense I've heard so much about right?

They're just tired from watching the closest one goal regulation playoff loss ever.

I'm guessing Oilers go back to Smith for game 2. If he has another bad game and the Oilers are down 0-2, they could be in trouble of getting swept if they go with Koskinen in game 3. Oh man, please please let this happen!

The fact that they lost it on a Mike Smith special with 4 minutes left to go made it even sweeter.

Whats that old hockey proverb?

"You're never in trouble in the Playoffs until you lose a game on Home Ice."

This is just another short cut to a dead end for the Oilers.

After losing out on the David Clarkson “sweepstakes” they pined after a “Milan Lucic” type player as what they needed. Ignoring that Milan is most effective on a Milan Lucic style team. Never draft & develop a player either, short cut, just overpay for Milan, and they are still paying.

The Ken Holland shortcut is self evident.

Zach Hyman was yet another shortcut to shore up McDavid & Draisatl’s defensive shortcomings. Again, they ignored that Zach can do this on a team where the star players have minutes managed to enable an assemblage of defensive mindfulness to stop on pucks, and minimize overly selfish offensive risks.

Now whatever defensive acumen he has is being poisoned by the Oiler way.

What’s hilarious is that I still think Woodcroft will go back to smith for game 2… and anyone that knows Smith and watched him in that game would know that he was awful throughout that game (not just on that giveaway) and will continue to be awful. He never recovers quickly from games like that - never. His ego is so over-inflated that when he costs his team the game, he can’t seem to compute it and he struggles for looonnnnnggg stretches from it.

And when his “puck-handling” is the cause of the loss, it makes it even worse for him because he draws his confidence from playing the puck. He will be a disaster for game 2 as well. Book it.

Despite all that, woodcroft will go back to him again.
