Smith’s brain: “My defencemen is wide open in the corner, I should pass it to him.”
Smith’s other brain: “Wait! That’s exactly what they’re expecting you to do!”
Smith’s brain: “By god, you’re right! What do we do?!”
Smith’s other brain: “Put the puck straight up the middle in a tied playoff game with 4 minutes left!”
Smith’s brain: “Perfect! They’ll never see this coming! I’m a genius!”

Well...theres only so much icetime to go around.

If he wants more ice he has to steal it from the Golden Boys!

Fun fact: McDavid logged 25:33 of ice time, which is nearly 3 minutes more than the next highest skater, Draisaitl at 22:34.

All those acquisitions (Kane, Hyman, Keith, etc) and they still don't have enough depth to be anythong more than a 2-man team.

It's effectively the same team as last year that lost to the Jets.

Kings ran their bench in a similar fashion- leaned heavily on their top 6

nice of Brendan Lemieux to play the role of Petr Klima tonight though, scoring in under 3 minutes of icetime

Continually surprised by the kings competitiveness this year with their roster on paper looking pretty darned thin. Good on them for stealing one on the road, still pretty low expectations here, think the Oilers got the weakest team in the playoffs, maybe barring Nashville without Saros, but enjoyable game tonight that's for sure.

They didn't steal that game in any way.

Sub-par judgements by the refs (presumably to manage the Oilers back into the game) are what made it even close.

That game was nearly stolen from them!

Yeah without checking it seemed like Kopitar and Danault were always on the ice matching up against them.

that winning goal was just perfect.

Hrudey saying that Smith should have marched into that dressing room and apologized was hilarious...

Does he even watch Smith? Guy is such a prick he'd blame his defense if he could have

Steal one on the road was more of a figure of speech. They played better than I expected and the oilers PP and one hero rush was all that kept it close. Let's hope they keep it up in game 2, you've gotta think with the oilers playoff fragility that the next game is absolutely massive.

Unless Oiler fans doctored it which they've been known to do in the past the Deserve-O-Meter chart had them at something like 79% deserving of the win.

I just don't see it. The only thing they were better at tonight was on the powerplay. LA deserved that win and had it not been for two horrible penalty calls they would have won 4-1.

The same ridiculous charts are available at even strength only and the kings had the superior xG if you take away the powerplays. The oilers need about 5 pps a game to be competitive

Doesn't sound right.

LA owned the play in the first and third.

Edmonton did have the higher quality scoring chances in the first 40 I'd say, despite having less possession, but I don't know how much that weighs into it.

Natural Statrick has:

Scoring Chances 46-42 Kings
HD chances 9-7 Kings
xGF% 51.7% Kings
5 on 5 goals 4-1

Goals on PP after dives 2-0 Oilers (okay I made that one up, accurate but not on their site)

Nothing was stolen tonight

The Oilers were pressing hard in the last 5 minutes of that game. LA couldnt even get it out of their zone. Quick had to make some great saves to get that win.

Good ol Stinkeye Smith, looks good on him.
