It's the playoffs. Goaltending and team defense matters now. Oilers may beat LA, but that's as far as they'll go. People sleeping on LA big time

Smith hasn't won a playoff game since 2019, and only one since 2012. He is 40-years-old. This will end poorly for him.

Doesnt change anything posted.

Smith may, in fact, crap the bed and how I hope he does....but his numbers the last 2 months are among the best in the league. Just the facts.

That being said, even if he does get through round one, I can see him starting to fail if he is playing every second night.......which is the schedule.

They're starving for recognition and don't like criticism after years of being a laughing stock and he gives it to them.

He's like a fan who decided to stream games on Twitch or one of those other sites and dub his voice over the commentating. There's no professionalism at all. All cheerleading.

I hope so. That would be delicious.

I like that he knows the team pretty intimately too. Could play into LA hands.

This one will come down to officiating. If the refs bite on the Oilers embellishment and give them enough PP's, they win this series easily. If they call it to typical playoff standard and make them earn goals 5 on 5 then it'll be close.

Excited to see the Kings spend lengthy 5 on 5 shifts cycling in the Oilers end as hungry 'underdogs' as the Oilers confusedly await their next powerplay that doesn't come.

Oil get up 3-0. Hype train roles real hard. Kings bounce back to take it in 7, utterly humiliating the oil in front of their home town crowd. Jerseys are tossed, urinals are ignored and a chorus of E=NG reigns from the skies as McJesus is called to the heaven that is a trade request, only to have the pearly gates slammed when the 31 teams remember that championships require more divinity than halfhearted chosen ones.

I can EASILY see the Oilers getting complacent after going up a couple of games. They have no experience having things go according to plan for them and meeting their high expectations.

With the players on that team they'd absolutely get full of themselves and expect that its in the bag and forget to work to earn that fourth game.

Too much has gone right lately tbh. It's way too much of a contrast from what that team is at its core. And as bingo pointed out, the goaltending is due for a regression to the mean. Their losing roots will rear its ugly head at some point.

Also I don't buy into Woodcroft. Seems like a nice guy buddy-bud assistant turned head coach. Strikes me as a total pushover in the media. Over explains himself which tells me he doesn't play things close to the vest as a coach or knows much more than he puts out there. Seems like a guy you would tune out pretty quick or outright ignore. Very Gulutzanesque. Awkwardly that also happens to be his right hand man.

How that guy got those guys to put forward their best 200 foot effort as a group is frankly beyond me. But we haven't seen what happens when it goes off the rails for more than a game. We don't even know if the guy can adjust in game/series.

Oilers: 1-7 in their playoff style games in the last two years.
Smith: 1-9 in his last 10 playoff starts
McDavid: drops to 0.76 career points per game in the playoffs.

Why are people high on that team? I don’t get it.

Oilers should win this but Kings are going to take this one deep. Oilers D are borderline terrible and goaltending is questionable. The two most important things for playoff success.

Not sure how anyone can be thinking this is going to be a lopsided Oilers victory. Yes they’ve been good the last few months but playoffs are an entirely different beast and they’re not built for it.

If a team can take the Mctwits out of the game, this team doesn't have much. Kane rides Mcavis coattails, Pissy has no d game. Pool party doesn't do much anymore. The rest is derpth.

I watched a few Coilers games this season because i enjoy train wrecks I guess. But, it's really evident when a team takes out the Savior, the grease looks very average.

If the oilers stay on a high, I think they steamroll the kings. But if they face any adversity at all, LA will pounce and the Oilers are done for.

A late tying goal on the PP and OT loss or a Smith weak goal or giveaway leading to a goal could be just what the doctor ordered in game 1 to set the tone for the series.

To me, this is a bit funnier when read in a Steve Armatige voice

I definitely agree with this. It is Edmonton’s series to lose. They are playing their best hockey at the right time and should be able to win rather convincingly.

That said, they’re still an extremely fragile group regardless of the boasting from their fan base, local reporters, etc. The slightest hint of adversity could greatly impact this team and alter the narrative. They have a well documented recent history of underforming and failing to meet expectations, and although are currently on a great run, have actually had quite a tumultuous season full of inconsistencies and turmoil.

I don't see much difference between this year and last, they ended second in the division, have a winning record against their opponent in first round, finished season on a high. Except last year they had a shorter season which was supposed to give Mike Smith the advantage.
