In news that shocks no one, he's known for brutality. Obviously Putin and the regime are hoping they can break the Ukrainian fighting spirit and get concessions to save face. Maybe your May 9 prediction has some merit to it. If it is indeed about saving face now and no longer about strategic goals, then Lord help us.

Here's hoping he meets the same fate of all the other generals sent to Ukraine so far

Russian media never reported that the deadline is May 9th. It could be correct still, but I have never seen Russians themselves bringing this date up.

I think what Captaincrunch was saying is that Putin (probably) wants the operation to be wrapped up before that so Russia can celebrate victory in Ukraine as well as the traditional May 9 victory ceremonies.

Is Newsweek.com a credible source?

https://www.newsweek.com/russian-leg...onvoys-1696655

"A total war has begun," Duma deputy Oleg Morozov said on Friday during a talk show appearance on Russia's First Channel, "and we have to make the collective West understand that they have no chance of winning this war." Morozov's statement came in the wake of comments from Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger, who confirmed on Friday that the NATO member had donated an S-300 air defense system to Ukraine. "I am certain that in the very near future," Morozov said, "we will see special operations, both from our air forces and from our special units, in order to destroy weapons shipments from NATO countries."

Edit: I guess the more important question is, is Duma deputy Oleg Morozov someone of relevance

Mr Morozov better make sure his forces don't get wiped out in eastern Ukraine before he starts making wider threats like this.

UA tactics might change from defensive to offensive and they decide to launch on assault on Rostov or Belgorod.

Mayor of Mariupol says 10,000 civilians were killed and the toll could be as high as 20,000.

To me this is just inconceivable, that in 2022 the modern Russian Federation would have deliberately and with such unimaginable brutality committed these atrocities in a former republic.

Because Russia is a nuclear power the world cannot stop it.

Its to the point where I can't watch the 11pm news anymore. I get so upset and depressed I can't sleep.

I share your frustration and your anger. I got blasted earlier in this nightmare when I questioned what the hell does the UN do. The most useless, corrupt organization that does nothing but suck the life, the cash an allow it's elite members to enrich themselves.

The prosecutors and the people and organizations who are in charge of war crimes better be put on notice. Do you your one ****ing job and do it well. That's all. If you can't do what you are paying paid to do, than do the world a favor and put a bullet to your own head cause we don't have time for phonies and useless losers when it comes to these things.

You were blasted because you still aren't grasping the concept of what the UN is and represents, and the end of the world scenario that follows direct intervention.

The UN is a forum for countries to come and discuss global issues. That's it. The nation-state is still the ultimate authority. The EU distorts this a little bit, but it's still holds true.

The ONLY way out of this is to squeeze Russia economically into poverty. All other scenarios lead to the end of the world.

If this depresses you, join the club. Nuclear weapons have been successful in avoiding WWIII for 77 years, but the caveat is you can't #### with a country that has them if they step out of line, which is what Russia has done.

I guess Russians expect this too, as seemingly all areas that border Ukraine are now on high alert of "terrorism danger".

Attacking supplies inside NATO countries seems like an incredibly stupid idea, as one of the main advantages of Russia in this war is their ability to use areas outside of Ukraine as support centers.

They go after NATO, NATO will hit back, and also take air superiority.

Would the same argument be made if Russia invaded a NATO member? That the ONLY way out of it is via sanctions?

Technically he doesn't say that, he says "we will see special operations, both from our air forces and from our special units, in order to destroy weapons shipments from NATO countries." So they could wait to strike until they cross into Ukraine. Now, if NATO is delivering inside Ukraine, that could be an escalation, killing NATO delivery troops. I have no idea if they are being transferred outside of Ukraine or not.

Well here's how I see it playing out.

1. Russia invades NATO member
2. NATO strikes back at Russia's 5-10 biggest cities with unprecedented bombing using conventional weapons. Think Dresden, but with modern militaries.
3. Russia either capitulates (not likely) or launches nukes on 25+ major cities in the west. Berlin, Paris, London, Washington, NY, Toronto, Warsaw, Kyiv etc.
4. NATO countries retaliate.
5. fin

I would be surprised if any NATO troops are crossing the border into Ukraine (officially).

Chemical weapons have been used in Mariupol, confirmed first hand by Azov regiment.

This has breached the threshold.

More like, any NATO weaponry that is supplied and brought into Ukraine will be destroyed. Thats the way I read it.

Not sure how they plan to do that, but hey.
