Probably depends on whether you consider the Sun mainstream.

You would honestly be surprised. I know far too many for my liking.

Note that the guy being discussed here was stationed at Coventry, where the Ottawa baseball stadium is. Coventry is where the police raided and confiscated their fuel. And then this guy replenished the supplies. It should have been very, very, very clear at this point that this was an illegal action.

Mandates, vaccines, proper hygiene in hot tubs... I don't give an F what the protest was originally about. By this point it was clear that this was all illegal. And while I support all forms of protest, including civil disobedience, I don't support harming other people. I have in the past blocked logging roads in vulnerable ecosystems. I have participated in sit-ins at political offices. But at no time did I harm someone's health. Harming like the blaring of horns was causing damage to people's hearing. Thousands upon thousands of people were forced from their homes and had to find residence elsewhere. Those that had nowhere to go had to find some way to survive. Some were wearing earplugs 24 hours a day. Not to mention the thousands of people that lost paycheques because most business were shut down.

I am okay with protest. I am even okay with civil disobedience. I draw the line when you are hurting other people. The noise levels were to the point where it would cause physical pain to children. And dogs for that matter. My wife volunteered with "No Surrender" during those three weeks helping get pets out of the downtown.

If you are part of a protest that is hurting others, I have zero sympathy for you. None. Nada. I don't care what this guy's circumstances were, they don't warrant what was done here.

BTW - my friend was awarded a "City Builder" award from the mayor for stopping the horns by being the only one brave enough to be lead plaintiff on the civil suit. Initially 10 people were going to be on the suit and 9 dropped out when they realized their name would be public and they could be targeted. And she has had to put up with a hell of a lot of harassment, not just online but the convoy spread her phone numbers around.. both work and personal.

I specifically put "Mainstream Media" in quotes because that's basically convoy talk for "Left wing mouth pieces for the corrupt liberal government"

One thing that I've really come to hate through all of this are the terms "Mainstream media" and "Narative"
Hearing freedumbers spout those words at every opportunity is like listening to a 10 year old who just learned how to swear. They over use them, don't really know what they mean, or how to use them properly, but they know they sound hella cool when they say them.

Easy to point fingers but truthfully none of us have full understanding of everything that happened and is happening for that matter. I don’t agree with the convoy, felt it wrong it got as far and big as it was and that it was mishandled. I also think some were voicing what they saw as legitimate concerns but in illegitimate ways. We have the right to protest but not at the expense of everyday people.

There is no true morality in any of it because the dart of truth keeps changing directions and feeds fear on both sides. People need hope, people need love, people need to know that people care about them. Regardless of political affiliation, race, or creed. We judge far too harshly far too quickly in the days of the internet and social media.
Well said. This board is a very poor representation of the general public in the city. The second mandates were lifted people flocked to public spaces acting like this thing had never happened. The dome is packed and no one cares about masking. Restaurants and bars are the same. Kids playcenters are packed. I meet with clients daily for work and ask if they'd like me to where a mask and I've had literally 1 person out of 200 say yes. And the City continues to run just fine. Most people want to live their life and are fine with making their own choices and decisions and allowing others to do the same. Glad to see the City getting back to normal.

What are you even talking about?

The only reason we are back to normal is because the vaccinated and those who followed the mandates saved us from the morons and unvaxxed degenerates.

The idiot freedumb protesters want us to be regressive and we’d be objectively worse off if they’d have gotten their way.

So thanks to all the non #######s and idiots who let us get back to normal and shame on those who want to ruin that.

You owe your ability to go maskless to the vaccinated and the mandates. The fact you had to wear one so long is the fault of the anti vaxxers and freedumb idiots.

This board is the only place I have seen this discussed. I don’t know anybody who wants to even discuss it, or who bring it up. It was dismissed as complete idiocy of a few idiots by every single person I knows personally. CP is the only place I am familiar with any discussion regarding the Freedumb convoy.

I don't think convoyers are all ####y people. But they clearly operate from an emotional place more than intellectual by default, and as a result have made themselves vulnerable. They're prone to jumping behind causes aimed at emotional gratification and narratives of injustice without doing adequate research on both sides of the topic & applying a scrutinous lens to these movements before committing themselves to them. It's a quality that can get you into trouble - ask any of my friends lured into pyramid schemes over the years that were allured by the promise of overnight wealth. There are many things out there designed to hook you in. That's why scams are everywhere. As an adult with assets and a future to protect, it's up to you to develop the tools and qualities to protect yourself and evaluate things outside of emotion. These people will claim they research, but they only research the side that appeals to them emotionally, which, I'm sorry- does not qualify as due diligence. Problem is, most don't have the self awareness or humility to admit this, even after the fact.

So here, you had a bunch of people sitting inside with nothing to do feeling like life isn't as gratifying as it used to be, and is devoid of all the pleasures they used to distract themselves with. The situation was ripe to hook these people needing something to chase or find solace in. But rarely is committing your savings and even job security to support an emotionally based movement that doesn't have strong optics to be successful (just a good story/spectacle) a wise idea. It's a ####ing terrible one. These are the actions of irrational & impulsive people that haven't learned how to resist chasing momentary pleasures and urges and get by on instant gratification without evaluating things from a long term, realistic perspective. They clearly do not question how taking these actions can hurt them in the long run. How is building fences between yourself and 80% of the rest of the world going to turn out for you long term when the pandemic is a thing of the past, and people will still remember what you said and did to alienate yourself? All those potential business partners, bosses, and family, who will still be your family 20 years from now? It's just not smart.

This is why we tease these people about their intellect. I think, on some level, the rest of us just really want these people to be smarter. Cause really, they're making absolute idiots of themselves on so many levels. I think many of us miss the people they were before they screwed themselves and their reputations by over-investing in such futile, ridiculous movements that have at times bordered on barbaric, as they stand side by side with their extremist neighbors without even being able to see that they are doing it

Even if they meant well, there is no question that they took a massive misstep somewhere to end up there. And a lot of this is tough love from the rest of us who are just angry on some level that they made these actions that they're going to have a real hard time taking back later.

The means simply were not worth the end when the end was going to come about regardless. We're already 90% back to normal, ffs.

It just wasn't worth it.

I had it mentioned in passing Thursday from a co worker who was crowing because "The Prime Minister was made to look stupid at the UN" earlier this week, where somebody mentioned a woman 'getting trampled' by a horse in Ottawa.

After the conversation finished, and I spent 10 minutes online, I let him know that the PM was speaking at the EU Parliament, not the UN, the composition and rep of that body, and the past of the 3 out of 700 reps who spoke out against the PM. I equated it to having as much bearing on the overall political feeling in Europe of the Canadian Prime Minister as former Calgary MP Rob Anders heckling Mandela in the House of Commons reflected how the Canadian People felt about Mandela.
So people are still out there and referencing it. I'm happy for you that you aren't dealing with it.

I wish Warmington. He wrote an article about a guy that was arrested for honking in Ottawa despite the court order. "That poor old man... all he did was honk his horn" Oi. Actually, the police were only going to give the guy a warning, but he started swearing and cussing out the officers and THEN they arrested him.

But, alas, it is only Hiller, who also spent a good deal of time at Coventry (baseball stadium). But he fled Ottawa back to his riding before the police action.

At several points during the occupation, the convoy had supporters flooding the Ottawa 911 line. Reporting fake emergencies to get the police spread out around the city and unable to be in the downtown core. Several times the Ottawa Police tweeted out condemning the flood of calls. Hillier retweeted the OPS condemnation with the comment "Keep calling in a democracy..." Asked if he would apologize for the tweet he said "I made no mention of 911 in my tweet. And I don't generally apologize for other people's mistakes."

He was kicked out of the Conservative party in 2019. He was too looney tunes for Doug Ford.

I really didn’t want to get involved with this stupid Covid theatre again, but this “holier than thou” comment has peaked my interest. How’s the weather up there in your ivory tower looking down on the *peasants who dared not trust an unproven Vaccine?

Get over yourself. You didn’t save the world by taking the Vaccine. You’re not saving the world by continuing to wear 2 masks, (probably alone in your car, or out walking on the street) Some people got the Vaccine and then stopped being afraid of Covid. You know, “trusted the science”.

I could go on and on about my beliefs on this garbage, but I’ll leave you with this. You’re just as protected as any Unvaxxed person right now. (Scary isn’t it?)

This is factually incorrect.

A vaccinated person who acquires Covid for the first time will have a lower risk of death than an unvaccinated person. A person with a recent booster will have a lower risk of death then both.

Vaccination saves lives and boosting continues to save lives.

Get vaccinated, get boosted, get your flu shot. Follow NACI recommendations. People who do this literally are saving millions of lives.

Don't argue with zombies. We're two years into this nonsense and some folks aren't bright enough to see the forest for the trees. I'm sure he's wormed through a number of failed conspiracies that never came true, but course correction would require admitting you aren't a know-it-all wolf in the herd of sheep.

I'm sorry that Honkeytonker lacked the stoicism to endure minor hardship, and contribute in fairly minor ways. Eventually the chickens come home to roost.
