Raddysh has looked like a good NHLer with potential to me...point being they aren't just throw in AHL guys. It's more than two firsts.
If they win the cup it's totally worth it, could easily be out early in that division. Wasn't all that impressed last week.

while I agree with you in general, the league does do weird things at times- and tampa is sort of a poster child of this- win a cup in 04. by a few years later they are taking stamkos and hedman back to back- work their way back up to the semi finals a few years later and all of a sudden they are taking Drouin 3 OV

Neither has ever gotten any real time with skill players. They had good AHL stats.
Put Raddysh back with his former Erie Otter line mates Debrincat and Strome and who knows what you may get.
Expect Boris to slide into Hagel's old spot on Kane's line.
Hagal wasn't considered a great prospect when he joined the Hawks as an unsigned 6 round pick. But he worked hard and parlayed ice time with Kane into being a good player.

Yes, and if you need to trade every first-round pick from now until 2099 in order to win a Cup or three, you do it.
The problem is there's no guarantee of winning it all, and of course a lot of trades are gambles. I'm going to take a look-see and find out how many teams that traded one or more firsts actually got to sip from the sacred chalice the year they shipped off that pick or picks.
This trade, though, is mindbottling. Even presuming the 4th's for Katchouk & Raddysh are a wash (a dubious proposition, but just for the sake of argument), two first-rounders for Brandon Hagel is bonkers. He's a nice player but not a star. Unless Hagel scores multiple game-winners and the Bolts threepeat, they got hosed.

All three guys are 1998 born players, and prior to this year I think Raddysh and Katchouk would have both had more trade value than Hagel.
In their professional hockey careers prior playing in the NHL:
Hagel: 0.58 PPG
Raddysh: 0.69 PPG
Katchouk: 0.54 PPG
I don't think anybody would have taken Hagel over Raddysh or Katchouk coming into this season.
Only difference is this year all of a sudden Hagel got top 6 ice time on a bad team, and is shooting 23%.
If Hagel is shooting a more sustainable (and realistic) 12%, and he has 12 goals instead of 21 then no chance he returns this package.
Raddysh and Katchouk have been playing on a 4th line with each other, and Tampa's 4th line has been extremely effective.
While Hagel gets to play with Kane, Toews, Strome, and Debrincat for most of his minutes.
I honestly think Tampa could come out of this a worse team right now.

I saw Hagel vs the Canucks in Vancouver earlier this season and he impressed. In fact he was the game's first star fwiw.

Still torn. Hagel was the best of our young players under contract. He was usually on a line with Toews, as Kane has been with Erie Otters' Strome and DeBrincat. But, you get an offer too good to pass up, you do it. I know nothing about the guys coming back our way.
Hagel is a relentless worker on the boards, and has gotten a lot of goals retrieving the puck and going to the paint.

This is a crazy return. This is what I would expect for a player like Giroux not Hagel. I like the player, definitely don’t like the price.

Well at least this makes the Chiarot trade NOT the worst trade this week. What a stupid overpayment for a middle six winger. Glad it happened to Tampa.

Lot of folks undervaluing his contract. A relentless 50 point guy for under 2 million?
That’s extremely valuable to a team with a championship caliber core already in place.

The issue is undervaluing 1st round picks. What you hope is that you draft and develop your OWN relentless 50 point guy for under 2 million, and for a lot longer than a couple of years. By giving away 2 young prospects who could easily achieve that level, as well as 2 1st round picks, they're giving away those odds of developing that type of player that could easily be found in a 1 in 4 chance. My bet is that Chicago gets 2-3 players that fill the void left by Hagel easily with this trade.
It's a bad trade by a team desperate to stay relevant in the East with the emergence of the Hurricanes and Panthers.

A 50 point guy who’s never had 50 points.
Playing on the third line on Tampa likely makes him a 30 point guy.
Hagel is a decent player, but he’s riding an unsustainable shooting percentage of about double his rate.
Who was the last player that brought 2 first round picks in a trade?

Big Hagel fan here-I was hoping we could pick him up, but that's a big price to pay. Youth, and a great contract will cost a ton though. Tampa can afford it, with those 4th rounders coming back, as they are good at drafting.
Young, fast, gritty, and his numbers will go up down there.

Yeah when you look at the draft picks that way, it’s like 2 early seconds for 2 late thirds

Unlikely, with his premium ice time going down.
