Never say never but that would be an interesting one to see done to say the least.

Only way it would work is if the Ducks like a Flames prospect more than what the other teams are offering.
Then you would have to probably offer a the 2023 1st and demand lottery protection.
Also would probably require a 3rd team to do a 2nd salary retention so you get Lindholm at 25% cap hit.
Just so many things need to align and such a high cost and high risk.

Maybe driving up the price a bit? Hampus is a good player. Much better than Chiarot.

Taking a while to get to 5000

The Flames have made it this far with the crew they have. Just get a depth d-man to keep Stone company in the press box and get to the playoffs.

Gustafson isn't happening again, he's a PP specialist even and horribly defensively. he was not notable the last time we had him

I feel this way too...have a bad feeling about moving Monahan in-season.

Seravalli on his trade deadline preview podcast:
Thinks the Flames will get the best depth d-man they can find for the least cost.
No chance they bring Hamonic back at his cap hit.
on Monahan:
if it is to just to unload the contract, Flames will wait until the summer and someone will take him off their hands because he is 27 and a historically a 30/30 guy
he is perfect insurance piece if the Flames don't have anything big lined up
if the Flames do have something big lined up he is any easy guy to move because it is dollars in and dollars out
Calgary is an interesting team to watch

Personally I think we should just keep monahan.
But if we must, I say package monahan and whatever else vancouver wants from our prospect pool for Miller and see what happens.

This is promising to be honest.
Monahan has been poor but sounds like his age, and one year remaining on his term make him moveable in the offseason.
Hell Dustin Brown looked done those last three seasons with Sutter too and then he bounced back with 60 and 50 point seasons once Sutter left.

Powerplay Quarterback

Lindholm would be a huge get, he is the best defenseman on the market. He is big, he plays top pair, he plays on both special teams, he is tough to play against. He is a clear upgrade.

I know for cap reasons we pretty much have to move on from Mony but I really hope they keep him for one last run here. He's been a great player for us and he's accepted any role he's been asked to play. He hasn't sulked and he's been a true professional here. He also has done a ton of good off the ice and seems like a good person.
I think he deserves to stay for the rest of the season and take one last shot with the only team he's ever known.

This is my thought as well. Obviously if the trade is a clear win for the Flames on the ice, they make a deal, but trading him now just to get his cap hit off the team for next season would be counter productive. We shouldn’t under estimate locker room chemistry and how tight this team is at the moment. Treliving needs to think about how moving a popular player out can affect morale.
Also, Odin forbid, Lindholm or Backlund have to miss time, I think we will be happy that Monahan is still in the mix for depth.

Yeah, it makes no sense to move Monahan just for cap dump reasons. If you are going to move him at this deadline, do it to vastly improve your team.
I find it hard to evaluate Monahan's play. On the whole I find he is playing a much more assertive game. Is 60 to 80 games enough to declare him an improved 200ft Sutter player? I dunno. My eye test tells me that he is a much more well rounded player. What that means in the grand scheme, I don't know that either.
It begs the question, this is a really deep team, but not impressively deep at centre. What if Lindholm gets injured? Who slides in there? Monahan would be the easy choice just based on familiarity and experience. But is he ready to play the type of game Sutter demands on a top line again?
On paper im fascinated by the idea of simultaneously moving Monahan and improving the team. In practice, it makes me very uneasy.

There are lots of centres on the team but not a whole lot that move up the lineup. Frankly if you lose Lindholm, he’s pretty irreplaceable anyway. Same with Gaudreau for that matter - it’s not like even a good player like Mangiapane could slide up and do the same job.
Monahan is gone in the summer if they want to extend the three important contracts. Unless Treliving can convince Gaudreau to take a deep cut to keep his buddy

Pretty exciting times. The Flames made 2 trades already this year for guys that were deemed the perfect fit by many fans and pundits. I like there are still rumors they could be into something significant if it comes along.
Also nice to hear Frank speak about Monahan as a guy who is valued out there. Many here think it would cost to get rid of him but with his age and career to date I am not surprised he would have some positive value out there. Just hasn’t been a fit with Sutter.
