If I had to guess, Flames will be on the hook for the signing bonus and then Looch will join the Flames organization in some sort of off-ice capacity
|
For the Flames to do that, Looch would actually need to be injured. They won't play that game.
Plus, there is every indication that Looch is no where close to retiring.
I'm not sure how beat up Looch is. Now his opponents, that's another thing.

You're right maybe Lucic would welcome a move to NHL purgatory Arizona in his last year with a 10 team NTC.

Not a rumor but saw on Twitter. Speculation a Debrusk for Monahan trade could work for both sides

Coleman-Backlund-Debrusk does make sense positionally at the very least.

I assume Debrusk would not be qualified in the off season so he’d be a pure rental.

Backs still isn't hurting the team and his we should be looking at cutting others way before considering Backs.

This is quite frankly a bad take. Michael Backlund has consistently been dog poop for half the season every year. His defensive game is starting to falter and his offensive game has done so even more. These things are not going to improve.

There is a rumor he is willing to sign with a new team for less than his QO but I could see the Flames treating him as a rental and qualifying him if he plays well and things with Johnny don’t work out.
I still doubt it happens because the center depth of this team would be weakened significantly if Monahan is moved for a winger

I guess the assumption is Jarnkrok plays C. And Ruzicka is back. You also have Dube. Not ideal, but it sure solves a cap issue.

And Boston is a good enough team to make it work with Monahan's NTC to want to play for fresh start.
Could potentially add other depth players at deadline with cap difference.

Boston was probably never on his NTC list anyway. Players like the team and the city.

They actually do, especially with DeBrusk going the other way.

Not necessarily an upgrade but a move that could kill your chemistry.

Yeah, not necessarily from Monahan going, but DeBrusk in - who knows? His teammates has his back when he requested a trade but it can’t have been great.

I liked him in his last stint here, but thought he was struggling a bit during the playoffs. As a 7th D he just ticks all the boxes in my head. All the boxes except for the acquisition price.

Erik Gustafsson or Robert Hagg - the Swedish House Mafia depth dman we need.

Friedman on the Marek show wonders if the Flames will look at Hampus Lindholm with Murray and Sutter's connections with the Ducks. Admits it will be hard to do with all the picks the Flames have traded away.
Says for sure they will try to get a depth d-man.

Not sure how the Flames can afford him with the rumored ask?

So we would sit big z? I don't think that's great. I doubt that half the penalties Z has taken recently would be called in the playoffs

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
Yeah thats a big ol' WTF from Friedman. Now he's listing all the other teams that would be in on him. So the Flames, with next to no space or draft picks etc would be in a biding war?
Never say never but that would be an interesting one to see done to say the least.

Yeah, Pheonix is a terrible place to live for the final months of your career.
Could be another team, I only cited Arizona as an example. You don't think any other team would have interest?
Your initial comment was that Lucic already did the Flames a favor by being left exposed in the draft. I guess your logic is that he isn't about to do that again, for some reason. uhh.....okay? I guess you can do the mental gymnastics to figure that out.
I posed it as a possibility, you posed it as a foregone conclusion.

I think Kylington would be the guy moved out in that scenario.
