I fear if Tanev, Anderson or Hanifin go down with a significant injury they may think about doing it. Knock on wood.

The Value of Pelletier balances out the equation. You think or anyone for that matter think Chiarot has equal value to Pelletier? Because I don't. Like half value at best.

I’m not saying Pelletier for Chariot one-for-one, but Monahan is a salary dump and I don’t think that package is close for Montreal.

Just giving an example of what I would want if Montreal really wanted Pelletier. Not a chance in hell I would support the organization trading one of our top prospects for a defense rental.
If the team could get a long term second line C and dump their worst contract in the deal then sure I would trade Pelletier for Charoit.

Vegas really screwed themselves with how they treated Fleury like he was an asset in a video game. Lehner is decent but Fleury is a notch higher and was the face of their franchise. Their room and culture took a big hit there

Pelletier for Chiarot reeks of Forsberg for Erat. Maybe not as bad, but still stinks.

A lot of Habs players have a new lease on life since St.Louis came aboard. New coach, better offensive system- but for players like Chiarot, perhaps not sustainable in the long run.

zero pressure, like at all
I remember the Flames going on runs late in the season in the late 90s and early 2000s

Looking at some realistic options:
Getzlaf
- Was once probably one of the top 5 playmaking centers in the NHL. His goals have really fallen off, but he still racks up the assists. I haven't watched him much, but I am going with the assumption that he is still setting up nice plays. I don't think it would cost too much to get him.
Stastny
- Used to be one of the better playmaking centers. His goals vs. assist ratios have not reflected that recently. Not sure what the deal is there. I could be over simplifying things by just looking at goals vs. assists, but I am not an advanced stats guy.
Yanni Gourde
- Put him back on a good team, and I bet his numbers pick up.
Max Domi
- It would be worth it just to see a Domi and Tkachuk on the same team. Really though, the price might be low and I think he has some decent skill. He needs to play the right way though, which maybe Sutter could get out of him.
Chandler Stephenson
- He sort of came out of nowhere, but seems like he could add playmaking to the second line. The risk is that he has only done it in Vegas and it could be a case of a player just being in the right situation. It is also contingent on Vegas falling out of playoff spot and not being optimistic about their chances.
Longer Shot:
J.T. Miller
- He is playing great hockey and was rumoured to be on the block, but with the Canucks still in it mathematically, will they want to trade him, especially to a division rival. Probably looking at a 1st and top prospect going back.
Pipe Dreams:
Mathew Barzal
- Not a banner year for him, the Isles would be selling low. I doubt they have lost hope in him yet, and the cost is probably one or two cost controlled young players. I doubt we have the currency for it.
Bo Horvat
- There were some weak rumours that the Canucks could trade him, but I really doubt it. Like above, I doubt we would have the currency to get it done without upsetting the current roster too much. Plus the division thing.

Why is Vegas trading Stephenson, absent a massive overpay? Even if they fall out of the playoff race in the next few days ( which is not possible), he’s cost controlled cheaply for another two years after this year. On a team with cap issues, he’s a certain keeper for them. Plus he’s 2nd on the team in scoring.
Just because a team is not contending, they generally don’t move good players unless it’s their walk year.

Offence from the defence seems to be a weak point for the Flames. Acquiring Chariot, who had 2 points in the Habs big playoff run, seems like a big mistake. Kylington is still a little green, but the Flames need his offensive presence in the top four.

If we're throwing away a 1st for a rental D -- which I don't think we should do -- I pick Gio over Chiarot, thanks.

If we are throwing another first or top prospect away it better be for a center.
