Seems like an expensive price for a rental.

Giving up Pelletier for Chiarot sounds like a horrible idea

Not keen on Chiarot. Would be an overpay. We can probably pick up a decent depth dman for a mid round pick who will end up contributing the same.

I could see why the Habs would make the ask if they want a first rounder-type return. I’d rather the Flames go after a cheaper depth piece if we’re talking rentals.

Sure but a team like Seattle can take multiple 6 mil risks
Monahan for 1 year hoping he bounces back into a 2nd round pick value at TDL next year
Flames will have to add for sure - but say they package a 2nd or prospect it’s not a terrible gamble for Seattle
They need professional players as well and finding centers is hard
I don’t think moving him will be a big deal if we need too. Or he goes in LTIR until end of season , receives all his $$ vs a buyout , and is a healthy FA going into 2024 😏

I still don’t get why the Flames need another top 4 D - if they trade assets for a D when we still have major forwards holes I will be quiet annoyed

But the Flames have continued to keep tabs on Chiarot with the obvious issue right now that I think Calgary views the current price as too high. My sense is the Habs have strong interest in Flames prospect Jakob Pelletier, the team’s 2019 first-round pick.”

Has to happen, especially now that Toffoli’s entire $4M+ cap hit is now in the fold. Ideally, Monahan should’ve been moved prior to the start of this season, but it is what it is. It’s entirely possible that Gaudreau, Tkachuk and Mangiapane eat up all the projected available cap space next season and that still leaves Kylington to sign and 6 or 7 other skaters. Does Gudbranson get extended? Are the Flames ok with adding 7 league minimum players to round out their roster? I actually could see a scenario in which the team jettisons Monahan, Dube or possibly even a Hanifin just to make make the team more competitive.
The fear I have is that 31 other GMs know the Flames cap situation, so they understand that Treliving will be a bind. So do they make the bet that Monahan will be inevitably be bought out so they can jump in with a $1M prove it deal or does a team want Monahan so bad that they take the entire $6.3 cap hit (seems unlikely). I guess Treliving could add a sweetener, but I hate the idea of losing assets just to trade someone off the team. Would be pretty sad that not that long ago, we were hearing Monahan for Josh Anderson trade proposals to whatever Sean’s value has plummeted to now.

Of course they have interest in Pelletier. He's a former 1st rounder showing steady progression in development and is French. That's low-hanging fruit for rumour mongers. I seriously doubt that the Flames would consider Chiarot for Pelletier unless it was a significantly larger deal involved.

Chiarot brings more Sutter-esque bite to the back end but you lose on offensive production as presumably he replaces Kylington.
While I think Chiarot is an overall upgrade on Kylington, especially in a tight-checking playoff series, the mobility and puck-moving elements to Kylington's game are bigger needs on the back end with this group as constructed.
If we're talking about Pelletier being involved then it's a hard no for me. Only way I'm moving Pelletier is if we're getting a middle 6 center who can play with Toffoli and Mangiapane.

I wasn’t even a big fan of giving up Pelletier for Toffoli so absolutely no to Chariot
Dvorak and Charoit for Monahan and Pelletier I would do

Sure, they can take multiple risks, but will they?
And are there better risks to take?
But I see that you are giving them now a 2nd round pick to take him. That’s a pretty big cost and that may be doable.
You’ll notice they took none of these types of risks this year. Although I’m sure they had lots of offers.

Would be sad not to have Monahan as part of a long playoff run but that's just me being sentimental on a quiet Sunday afternoon.

I wouldn't and I am a big Dvorak fan. Monahan is a move you do after the season, pay the Coyotes a draft pick to eat the whole contract as they need to get to the cap floor anyhow. Moving Monahan pays for Tkachuk and Gaudreau extensions.
