Flames have broken through and are contenders in my view. This was a playoff type game against a top team and Cup champions.
Johnny with the hat trick and Backlund with a good goal. The Flames have the top good players and can get it done.
Shots on goal were pretty even 32-31 in favor of the Flames, otherwise all other stats were quite even other than the special teams as the Flames capitalized on 5 pp chances with a goal. So that was probably the difference in the game,TB playing shorthanded, Flames forced them into penalties.
If Stamkos manned up and challenged Monahan maybe he’d fight (maybe not). But chucking fists before the guy even knows what’s what is a punk move. It was when Kassian did it to Tkachuk and it was when Tootoo did it to Iginla back in the day.
Whats worse is that its a 4-1 game, in the dying seconds with the Flames on a powerplay.
No player with 2 brain cells to rub together is going to engage at that point. Its not worth the risk of injury, its not worth the gamesmanship, its not worth anything.
Stamkos was just channeling his inner 'pissy little bitch.'
Monahan did absolutely the right thing. Don't engage. Its over, slam the 2 points into the win column and move along.

Winnipeg much the same I feel like. Just seemed out of sync which led to high quality chances. I never felt like they were "better" more than maximizing opportunities.
So far tonight Calgary is imposing solid defense and it's showing. Lightning started to get some stuff going but Calgary forced a lot of issues also

That's a well coached team knowing how much hockey they are playing lately.
I have never been more of a Sutter believer than I am now. Truly an elite coach who knows exactly how to motivate a group of professionals, keep his tactics simple, but effective and is always fair.

Again. Process. Guys who know what it takes to win. We look at Coleman and we question is contract or whatever. Sutter just sees a guy who knows exactly what he needs to do.

That dub was the Flames' first win against a defending champion in a looong time. Last dub happened vs. Pittsburgh (16-17 Champs) on November 2, 2017. Since then?
An L in Pittsburgh during the 17-18 szn plus:
18-19: 0-2 vs. Washington
19-20: 0-3 vs. St. Louis
20-21: Different schedule format (Tampa played in a different division)
We won’t get one next year either (Can’t beat yourself)
