That dub was the Flames' first win against a defending champion in a looong time. Last dub happened vs. Pittsburgh (16-17 Champs) on November 2, 2017. Since then?

An L in Pittsburgh during the 17-18 szn plus:
18-19: 0-2 vs. Washington
19-20: 0-3 vs. St. Louis
20-21: Different schedule format (Tampa played in a different division)

Wow. What a game.

For the first half it looked like an epic goaltender battle with both Marktrom and Vasilevskiy repelling chance after chance.

The game was a track meet—one of the fastest games I have seen this season—which makes it even more impressive that there were only three goals scored through the first 39 minutes.

And what a finish: the Flames just took over and imposed their will, prompting TB to lose their composure and ultimately the game.

I said it in the game thread, but as fun as the Oilers win was, there was just a world of difference between these two games, and I think it is because of how skilled and confident both teams are. The Oilers game was much, MUCH less entertaining, because they lack the players to play at this level. What a treat to see two juggernauts trading blows like tonight.

SNET reject Randorf on the TB broadcast couldn't believe that Monahan wasn't given a penalty when Stamkos jumped him.

Not on the initial hit, but when Stamkos dropped the gloves and suckered him. He thought Monahan should have also been given a penalty for some reason...

He's still stuck on the first bout of Mike Tyson's Punch Out, and can't get past The Tenderness.

What? No. Monahan played Stamkos like Yo-Yo Ma plays the Cello.

Does Stamkos often kill penalties in the dying seconds of a game thats over?

No. He lost his head. And continuing to piss Stamkos off was all Monahan was trying to do and he did it perfectly.

He made Stamkos look like a 'Grade A' Chump.

Never liked Randorf's play calling but that's just dumb.

I'm just happy we were able to wave-back the Tampa crowd.

It’s pretty embarrassing. He’s got the hands tucked over his head move down pat.

Default It was WIN! Johnny! Johnny! Johnny!

We’ve gotten at least 1 point from every team ahead of us in the standings.

1. Avalanche 1-0
2. Hurricanes 0-1-1
3. Panthers 1-1
4. Lightning 1-1
5. Leafs 1-0-1
6. Rangers 2-0
7. Penguins 2-0

If Stamkos manned up and challenged Monahan maybe he’d fight (maybe not). But chucking fists before the guy even knows what’s what is a punk move. It was when Kassian did it to Tkachuk and it was when Tootoo did it to Iginla back in the day.

Since their 4-game, post-covid losing streak in early January, the Flames have been the best team in the league:

CGY: 37 Pts .804
COL: 36 Pts .750
CAR: 33 Pts .750

Goals for per game:

TOR: 4.23
FLA: 4.20
CGY: 4.17

Goals against per game:

CGY: 2.30
COL: 2.38
CAR: 2.45

Pretty, pretty, good
