Ugly season, long expensive extension ahead, potentially chronic injury issues... NTC kicks in starting in July. There were even light rumors he was *available* on the trade market the last few years.
I don't know.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Look at it this way. Without Couturier they can give Johnny more money. If we have Couturier we can't.

Where’s Anders Erikson when you need him eh?

It really makes no sense. Philly signed him for 8 years and he has been hurt this year so not causing culture or locker room issues. The flyers trading him before an extension kicks in shows me that the injury is very serious and his long term career is at risk. Makes no sense for the Flames to take a longer expensive contract when they need space to sign their free agents. Couturier is not a factor in these playoffs.
Does not make even remote sense for the Flames or the Flyers

Getting close to the deadline, time for Vegas to circumvent the cap with a LTIR for cap space.

If Fleury gets traded back to Vegas, Chicago can’t hold salary, right? That would be circumvention.

This allows them to activate Martinez to get up to speed in the last couple of weeks, and Lehner to get some rest before the playoffs. They will want to have Lehner get some reps in before the playoffs, so Reilly Smith is practicing his limp, to be prepared.

Vegas could miss the playoffs if Lehner is out a while and they don’t find a replacement.

Until this year, he was. he was a 200 foot centre and scored, more or less, on par with Johnny. He was everything we hoped Monny would become.
But that was then, this is now.
A bad back. That's not good for a hockey player.

Less, he scores less...it was a classic compare one players best season with another's worst.
He wasn't way better than Gaudreau it was a bad take then and looks even worse now.
Gaudreau 568 points in 576 Games
Couturier 460 points in 721 Games
Not the same, more or less...its a lot less in fact

Was more thinking the Montador and Commodore in 04. Commodore was acquired late in the season that year for depth (understood he hadn't made his mark yet.). But those two were a prominent fixture in that cup run, neither we part of our actual top 6 until playoff injuries hit. Our top 6 was:
Regehr
Leopold
Lydman
Ference
Warrener
Gauthier

Gauthier was a beast. Too bad he could never stay healthy.

Couturier has a weird career arc. Hovered around. 5 PPG for half his career, then ballooned to close to PPG for 3 and now fallen right off due to injuries.. I guess in fairness, he started really young as an NHLer. Full season at 18 years old.

Colton Poolman is the 2022 Brennan Evans.
Granted, the Heat have a bit more depth on the blue line that could conceivably be called up but, outside of Valimaki, very little with NHL experience.
