Looks to me like the fans are legitimately turning on McDavid and Draisatl, who have in turn given up on the team.

Seems like as soon as Spec called their stars out they folded like a cheap lawn chair.

Perusing their game thread It also looks like the gradual shift from winning to cheering for individual stats has begun. Come on Draisatl for the Richard, McDavid for the Ross and I guess Hart. Never change Oilers fans.

The toilet seat up north is once again down.

That is all the guy behind the bench.

He never ever panics and his players take his cue.

watching the game last night, I don't thin McDavid was even noticeable until the second half of the 1st period. Between Draisaitl and McDavid, Draisaitl was the more noticeable player. With a compressed schedule and playing around 25 mins a night in close games, I think it is catching up to them.

Flames keep on winning. Great to beat the Oilers! The early returns from the Toffoli trade have been solid.

Ovi and the caps up next.

I think it's more than that. There's a number of new faces that greatly contribute to that calming factor. Treliving deserves credit for bringing in some guys with championship experience and provide quiet leadership. Yeah, they had Sutter's fingers all over them, but he was smart enough to see the larger need (see what I did there?) for the team and make them much harder to play against and more resilient in the face of adversity.

While Sutter obviously cares about results he strikes me as a firm believer in the process. "Play this way and you will win 2/3rds of the time". After the beat down in Vancouver he wasn't even angry. That even keel is critical.

I think he's such a good coach and has so much experience now, that he's able to only focus on what the team can control. You actually don't have full control over whether you win a game, or a playoff round, or win the cup. The other team can be better, the refs can screw up, you can just get back luck.

All you can do to your point is focus on your process, execution and effort. Do those well every night, you will win more games than you lose.

To be honest I would rather have Garry Galley full time than Hrudey.
I haven't listened to Hrudey in a long time, and usually I think these sorts of biases are overblown but holy crap, it was praise for the Oilers all the time and nothing for the Flames.

Zadorov and Gudbranson... I know they are commonly thought of as the third pair but many nights they seem like our most important pair by far.

Yeah, it was really noticeable. I really like Hrudy and think he has great insights and is a pleasure to listen to most of the time. But man, it was like invasion of the body snatchers.

Calling it a "special night" because he gets to watch McBaby, and compared it to the experience of watching Gretzky and Lemieux -- two gifted players, but also terrific leaders with sky-high GAF, not to mention multiple-time champions -- in their prime? Come ON, man.

Makes me think Sportsnet has some kind of corporate line to BJ the Oilers and to market the hell out of McDavid. Why don't they get that the rest of the country can't stand them -- and that McDavid is just a supremely talented, super-selfish bonehead?

You know, last night every single D man had at least one or two amazing plays to shut down McDavid. While I think the Coleman line deftly dealt with Draisaitl.

Not one D man had a poor game last night, despite the gt being a tad overly harsh on Shilly. He ran down McDingus twice to stop a play.

That Johnny goal was pretty impressive seeing how he handled the pass while he was breaking out. Literally gets it on his left side almost behind himself with an awkward stick angle and makes it look easy

Man that was a wonderful game last night.

I want to shoutout 3 players for quiet yet strong play almost all night.

Blake Coleman is such a beauty. Plays the Sutter game so well and I think since bringing in Toffoli he has been a rock defensively (no pressure to provide secondary scoring).

Noah Hanifin was rock solid when shutting down McDavid and the Piss Boy Wonder. Not the best break out skating, but I don't think he missed a single breakout pass all game.

Dube has been relentless on the forecheck and is bound to get some goals here soon. He certainly is not a passenger and brings great hands and speed to his line.

He was so bad all game highlighting every little thing and two-bit player of the Oil. Then later it was like he realized and tried to catch up. He did highlight world class move by Noah Hanifin etc. but by then the damage had been done.
