He could bring his detailed experience in hockey organization to a different sport, to a different organization. Maybe he takes some time and builds up a community program.
I am saying that acting this way should lose you your pass to fame and glory.

Lol - that's a stretch, he's a pro scout for a small market NHL team. I don't see a problem with this, if he was an alcoholic that most definitely could be the reason he was such an ####### to work for. Despite it's acceptance, alcohol is a very hard drug. If he has taken the steps to recover, then I see no reason to not allow the guy to continue working in the industry that he has proven himself to be competent in.

You very well could be correct in this case...I'm only going by past experience where the person in the stands observing the strategy and nuisances of the other Team are also referred to as Scouts! If not a "Scout" what would they be called? As someone has already noted, he'll likely be tasked with doing both...which makes complete sense! IMO it really doesn't matter, I was just addressing the perceived angst of some folks who think seeing him on TV sitting at the Flames Draft table will bring shame to the organization.

If he's working on his sobriety then why not give him a shot?
Its a disease not a character flaw.

Here's the trade history for his team. Looks... bad. Best trade was probably for Kesler, though rumor at the time was that he essentially selected his destination.

Also you’d review FA signings.
I don’t think the deal was complicated. Flames needed. Scout in the area, he lives in the area. As far as I can tell regional scouting is kind of a PT job.

I remember when "Kneeordano" took out Fowler and Murray was all up in arms calling for Gio's head and suspensions. Tre then went on radio and called Murray's comments asinine. Both look to have moved on as they should have, just funny in hindsight.

Ducks have been one of the best drafting teams in the league for as long as I can remember, so this could be a good move. Not sure if it was Bob Murray himself who found all their gems over the years, but if he is, then this could be huge.

Murray would be a pro scout so probably wouldn't have any influence on draft decisions.

I suppose there is a way back into the world. You can email each and every person in the world to outline what you have done and ask for unanimous approval.
I hate this world.

In Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinals, the Ducks are playing the Red Wings in Detroit, all hell breaks loose when Dan’s Cleary’s game-winning goal may have been the result of Hiller's pad being shoved across the line, so, you can imagine the Ducks as a unit are both stunned and some, infuriated. Rachel Paris, a stage manager at the time of the event, claimed that frustrations lead to Murray assaulting her with a chair in the press box.

I'm not a fan of cancel culture but this guy is lucky he's not serving time in prison as there are so many unsavory stories about him.

Name on the cup still if we win it. How's that sound?
I work for an alcoholic. It comes with it's own set of issues. IMO there is probably more at play to his anger issues and how he treats people beneath him than merely alcoholism, but I recognize the difficulty of dealing with that disease and genuinely hope he is able to live a happier life.
But I am not sure he deserves this sort of privilege. Also, not a single person has really addressed the elephant in the room. I posted the draft and trades list from the last decade, his tenure in Anaheim. It hasn't been great at all. Doesn't seem especially talented as a pro scout to me.
Cronyism.
Edit:

Here's an example of pro scouts getting engraved on the cup. Seems pretty normal. That definitely qualifies as fame and glory to me.

What great pro acquisitions did Bob Murray make? Silfverberg? Everyone who followed swedish hockey knew he had untapped skill.
|
pretty sure he acquired that whole Cogliano-Kesler-Silfverberg line. Beyond that, he's been pretty underwhelming. Imagine having Shea Theodore in your system and giving him away... with an add

If being a scout makes you famous, without googling, who are the TBL’s pro scouts?

There are different levels of Fame. I didn't say famous, in the way you're intending. But getting your name engraved on the cup... how is that not one of the top honors/ fame possible in the Hockey community?
There's one pro scout on Tampa's engraving.

I absolutely love this hire.
Murray is one of the best executives in the game. This is a coup for Calgary.

Since this is a completely different role with completely different responsibilities than GM, I don't really have any problems with this hire if he has completed his rehab.
The only thing that might be problematic is if this will require him to interact with the people in the Ducks' organization that he was abusive towards. I don't know enough about how that works to know if it will be an issue.
