I could also see Sutter benching Kylington in the playoffs in favour of a more experienced D-man, or at least dropping him to the 3rd pair. I hope not, but that seems like something Sutter would do, as I also think OK will be skating on thin ice, so to speak. First mistake, he’s out.

I don't think that's necessarily true, Sandman. Darryl has given Kylington a remarkably long leash during the regular season.

Kylington isn’t getting benched. He’s been solid.
The whole d core is solid. We need a few more quality forwards and a seventh d man.
This team has a ton of depth and will be hard to play against come playoff time. Betting pelletier comes up then too.

Between Valimaki, Kinnvall, Mackey, Stone, and even Gravel (who actually had some NHL success for Sutter years ago in LA, playing 49 games @ 14 minutes), I think our depth on D is more solid than we give it credit for.

Kylington has great chemistry with Tanev. There's only 4 d in the league that have a better +/- than Kylington (Toews, Makar, Ekblad and Faulk) and he is putting up over 0.5 PPG with almost all of them coming at ES.
Kylington is not only going to play in the playoffs if we make it. He is going to be an important part of that d core.

Part of the reason I'm getting that '86 vibe. That was the year Gary Suter won the Calder. Of course Kylington isn't eligible, but ‘young defenceman goes on scoring tear and suddenly becomes part of the core’ is right on script.

I think with our big defensemen, at least they can skate. Gudbranson won't win many foot races, but he can still move OK for a big guy. Zadorov is deceptively fast in the right situations. Kylington is very fast. Andersson definitely has a motor when he uses. Hanifin is also OK. Tanev is probably average.
I would hate to bring Chara in if he was just a lump out there. It probably wouldn't be a good fit.
|
I haven’t caught any of their games to be honest. But, He’s playing 18 mins a night on a garbage team and isn’t a minus. I think he’d be a great 3rd pair/depth/room guy for the right price.

According to Seravalli, the ‘Hawks are listening to trade offers for Debrincat.

Why the hell would you trade debrincat first out of anyone on that team

Most value, easiest to most, most likely to generate the highest demand

I have no idea what the Hawks are even doing. Going scorched earth rebuild? Then why did they bring in Jones for a king’s ransom of picks and prospects?

Yeah none of this adds up. So weird. Scrambled management.

Different management group. I don’t think they even have a permanent GM yet.
Would be interesting how much independence the interim GM gets, to make moves.

Caveat that I do not believe this would be the right move; team chemistry is good right now and it doesnt make sense to stir it up like this.
But, the trade for Debrincat for the flames would be around Mangi IMO.

It's a good draft this year, so perhaps they think if they could get a prospect or two and a first, they could accelerate the rebuild.
PS. Seravalli also says that Dallas might sell Radulov-no real surprise there. He's a good player when he's on, but at this point in his career he's kinda mailing it in.

Well said. I'm not sure where some people get the notion that Kylington would be pushed in favor of another Dman during the playoffs? Or benched? He's a key piece to the current Flames success and has blossomed into a legit, dynamic NHL defensemen. Unless he absolutely crumbles and pulls a 180 in his progression.

Just a feeling I get. I always got the sense that Kylington is on a short leash with Sutter, but as Scorp pointed out, the opposite has been true-he's been allowed to grow and make mistakes, and DS still gives him good ice-time. It's been good to see, as he's always been yanked from the lineup in the past.

Reading online it looks like there could be something in the works around the Devils and Canucks. It was reported recently on 32 thoughts that the Canucks were interested in Zacha and now Serivali is saying the Devils have been chasing Boeser for a while.
Personally I would love for a deal to happen around Boeser and Zacha. Boeser has a 7.5M QO and I think if they add him it makes it very tough for them to throw a pile of cash at Johnny if it gets to that.
