Beats me.

Who said I know them or that’s 100% what they think. But Joe P has played 15 POs, over 160 games. He’s had that experience. If he thinks he can get a ring - that’s motivation. But at that age, he also knows the wear and tear of PO hockey on the body, and if he wants additional seasons he might just not want to go through it for a team that will play a round or two, if that’s his prediction. Same for Giroux to a lesser extent. And then there’s the Canada factor (especially for Pavelski again)
I mean, Joe P, on a 3 year deal, insisted on a NMC for two years and a 3 team list for the last year.

Is it reported that all the players playing in the US hold that same view/opinion? Did they take a poll?
There are inconveniences sure, but you're talking 2-3 months of hockey in the case of rental trades.
And teams aren't going to just up and cease all transactions with Canadian teams when they feel a deal could be in their interest.
I swear I hear this take every year and in the end you never hear of a trade falling apart because it was to a Canadian team.
Sure players had preferences, but 90% of the time they're gonna go where they're told, even if they have some limited control.

I was going to say, as a guy who has a few American friends, there really is a big bias for them against Canada-even in non-covid times. It's exponentially worse these days. I could see Giroux being coaxed to come here way before Pavelski.

Pavelski will be in the Iggy position. There will be some real favourites looking to add a guy like that, with maybe double salary retention (a la Foligno). And he will make a choice (or decide to just relax).

I will be happy with this year's trade deadline as long as they don't trade mid round picks (rounds 2 to 6) for plugs that aren't necessary.
Normally I'm against going all-in to acquire rentals. But I'm so tired of mediocrity that I won't mind if they sacrifice the future to make a big move. Id rather have someone like Miller than Giroux, since at least Miller has another year, but that would make the cap situation more complicated. The top priority should be getting Gaudreau, Tkachuk and Mangiapane on good deals.
On the other side, I'm almost always okay with the Flames selling assets to stockpile future assets. That would be fine as well. The 2023 draft is looking quite strong. Wouldn't mind getting 2023 picks.

The players that were being discussed don't have limited control. Giroux has a full NMC and Hertl/Pavelski both have three team trade lists. I highly doubt any Canadian teams are on their three team lists.

I wonder of there's a way they can offload Monahans hit and take on Miller because not only his attributes but contract fits this team perfectly because it lines up with Sutter's remaining tenure.
This and next year (assuming gaudreau resigns) are their best window for a run with this current core group.
Treliving needs to push his chips in on Sutter, otherwise picking up Sutter was a waste.
You don't pick up Sutter to develop/serve as a stop gap for a team that's in a transition. You get him to make a bid/run.

Me neither.
But apparently the question is would Pavelski mind Calgary?

Have wanted Pavelski for months… he’s the type of player missing from the top 6 and would add a ton of firepower.

A center that consistently wins his matchups and stirs the drink is a valuable playoff acquisition, no question.
It would be nice. All those years getting beat down by those sharks and ducks teams. I've always wanted to get one of the key players from those teams here.

For me, Chychrun and Kravtsov would be the ultimate deadline prizes, but neither will likely happen. Pavelski, Giroux, Toffoli,or Miller would probably help us the most in the short-term, and the playoffs, but will BT be willing to make a splash?
The good thing about the time Sutter was GM was that you knew something big would happen leading up to the deadline.

After Pavelski my next pick would be Toffoli. The Sutter connection just can’t be ignored or understated and I think he would look incredible on a line with Mangiapane and Monahan at Center.
Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Mangiapane - Monahan - Toffoli
Coleman - Backlund - Dube
Lucic - Ruzicka - Lewis
Richardson, Ritchie (honestly would prefer Phillips on a line with Looch but I digress)
Looks like a very deep forward group to me and adds some scoring pop to the 2nd line and 2nd PP unit which could be what pushes this team over the top. If there was ever a year I wanted this team to truly take a swing it’s this year… Sutter has created something special with this roster so far and even though this team has yet another crazy curveball rollercoaster hit them they’re finally showing true grit and resilience when the going gets truly tough.
Swing for the fence Treliving.

Please no more scrub dmen for picks.
We already have Stone not playing for us. Mackey who should be playing a regular shift in the NHL, and Kinvall.
Mackey, AHL defensemen of the year cant make the roster? I was pretty impressed by his game.
I would love to have Mackey playing than Zadarov. Great hitter cant pass the puck. He is a disaster in the d zone.
I think Mackey is a top four dman. He has done nothing but impress.
I think the team loves him too. One way contract for two years.
Time for him to play.
As for forwards? Call up Phillips and Pelltier. Let the kids play. Play them with Monahan. I would love to see that.

I think I want a larger sample size than six NHL games before anointing someone a top-four defenceman.

IMO Pavelski is the one rental who could really push this team over the top (albeit a pipe-dream given his 3 team NTC)...he could be our Nieuwendyk!
It'll be really interesting to see how things play out in DAL, they're effectively tied with ANA and EDM for the final WC spot, but they could really make hay as a seller at the TDL: Pavelski, Radulov, Klingberg, Sekera, Holtby.
I wonder if they would consider some half-pregnant deals where they take players back... Monahan+Valimaki for Pavelski; probably need to add a pick, but this might be more attractive than pure futures that other teams are likely to offer.

Toffoli would be nice, though I’ve never seen the Habs do a real tear down and rebuild even once in my life. I’ve read a few interviews where he mentioned Sutter and I’m not sure we can jump to the conclusion he loved him, reading between the lines. He acknowledged the success, but there were hints of it not being fun to get there. In the same interview he talked about being “destined” to be a Canadien. But then again, he’s older and wiser now.

Canucks J.T. Miller is available, but sources say the price is equal to the Coyotes asking price for Jakob Chychrun. A team will have to part with a No. 1, a blue-chipper/former No. 1, and a player.
Who would you rather have for the same price?
