Maybe Rafa hitting all those shots to the Berrettini backhand has fixed it?

Never in doubt
Honestly, 5 months ago when he was battling Jack Sock and loosing to Lloyd Harris I never thought I'd see Rafa back in a major final. Incredible comeback

Here's a stat to show how dominate the big 3 have been, they have now made a combined 91 Slam finals! Just insane

what we thought Rafa was getting
1R: Giron
2R: Kokkinakis
3R: Khachanov
4R: Hurkacz
QF: Zverev
SF: Djokovic
F: Medvedev
but actually
1R: Giron
2R: Hanfmann
3R: Khachanov
4R: Mannarino
QF: Shapovalov
SF: Berrettini
F: Medvedev
well, 3 out of 7 not too bad no? this is really high stakes stuff because Rafa has been in the position before to complete the double career slam but was painfully denied several times. this will be either the best weekend or the worst weekend ever for him and his faithful.
I can't sincerely put all my chips in his corner because of my Fedfan card. but I would take 10 more Rafa slams over 1 more Novax, because the guy has never been anything but a great ambassador for tennis and all around human in general. good luck NF, hope that whatever happens you can be proud of what your guy accomplished these past two weeks.

I think if Nadal is going to win, he will have to borrow a page from the Fed playbook and employ the SABR (Sneak Attack By Rafa). I think Medvedev is too good from the baseline and as we know he can run all day. If it turns into a baseline battle, I give the edge to Medvedev, but Rafa has good volleys and needs to try to get to the net to end points.
Looking forward to this one.

Barring some sort of Medvedev slip, Rafa will really need to serve insanely well. Even that won't win him free points very often, but may give him a few returns that sit up for him. This has the potential to go very long.

Thanks IJ, I'm going into the match to just enjoy the moment. I honestly didn't expect him ever to get this far again in any slam (yes even the French Open), and this could be his last slam final.
I remember last year being so down on tennis, watching Wimbledon and the US Open without him and watching him struggle physically at the French Open against Djokovic. I thought his career was over at that point.
I have nothing but bad memories of Rafa in an Australian Open final, it would be nice to see him win it again.
2012- watching a 5hr match and seeing him lose was horrible
2014- seeing him injured and not being able to compete in that final sucked
2017- I was so confident he was going to win, after all he always beat Federer in Slam finals that's what normally happened up until that point
2019- just a complete beat down by Djokovic
2022- ?

I stumbled upon a great match breakdown blog, will probably add this to my regular reading. here's the analysis of the two semis
https://jackedward.substack.com/p/issue58
a lot deeper than my "hurrrr pound on that backhand" commentary, though to be fair that match was more on a tic tac toe level of strategy than a chess match
