That lockeroom is already a toxic waste dump this past month to now. Adding even more would be.... Catastrophic. Mind bending dumb. Hope they do it.

I think Brad is definitely looking at doing something to help the club but it boggles my mind how there are guys on the radio who have a job spewing some brainless take that you can find on the HF trade speculation board. Like these guys are getting paid to say really stupid things.

Miller would be perfect. Exactly what is needed. This team can't afford to give up the futures required imo
The big thing is actually deciding what the #### the plan is
You are either rebuilding or building towards contention. I honestly can't tell what is going on here.

It isn't Miller would not be a fit, it is crazy to suggest it as an option given he is the Canucks top player. I am sure they are jumping at the bit to trade him to a division rival who won't be able to offer as good a package as many other teams. I mean why go small, let's just trade for McDavid instead if we are going to make impossible speculations.

Lol McDavid vs Miller. Hyperbole is one thing but that is just inane

I wasn't comparing them as players.

He was saying that if trading for a Rival’s clear best player is so easy why not shoot for the moon with McDavid (sarcastically) not in anyway comparing Miller to McDavid as players just in that both Miller and McDavid are the top players of the teams they play for.
I can’t see Vancouver trading a guy like Miller to the flames at any cost that would be considered affordable especially now that dim Jim is gone.

Hailey Salvian in the Athletic suggests Reilly Smith would be a good fit. His name has been bandied around as a player Vegas could move to free up cap space once everyone gets healthy.
The Flames would likely need to shed salary in a separate deal, and the price might be too high for a pending UFA. But Smith doesn’t have trade protection, and if management wants to make a splash that’s the kind of player they should target.

No thank you to Smith. Too much moving parts to make it happen and what a slap in the face it would be to help Vegas ‘fit’ Eichel into their cap structure. Big pass for me.

I hope that the league is tough on Vegas, and forces a serious add as well as losing Smith for nothing.

I highly doubt it. Year after year the thought is teams in cap trouble will lose someone of importance for next to nothing or add a sweetener. Year after year these teams wiggle out of cap trouble unscathed. Also it’s not like Smith getting traded to another team won’t help them. If a team is trading for smith it’s to help their lineup . That comes with a cost.

Even better is if other GM's decide they don't like their cockiness about the cap situation and don't give them an out before the trade deadline. Wouldn't it be great if they couldn't ice a team that was cap compliant?

I'm tired of Tre always trying to get "proven" commodities. He needs to go for young guys that still have potential. Turn them into the likes of Lindholm. That's why I want to take chances on younger players from other teams. Lazar was a risk, but it's not like Formenton is making us feel so much regret.

Worst case it is like Schmidt where they have to take a 3rd rounder back but I don’t see why they would give Smith to a team that they are competing for the division against.

I agree with this because it's the key to getting good contracts.
If you want contracts that are steals, you basically have to pay a premium for term without having the player prove their potential themselves first.
It's risky, but if the player is young and is promising, it can be enormously beneficial.
You could argue that the single best move Treliving has done was Lindholm's extension. Chychrun, Slavin, Theodore, Batherson, D. Toews, Buchnevich, Teräväinen, etc.
Josi signed a 7 x 4 mill contract after only playing 100 NHL games and having proved very little. It was one of the best contracts I've ever seen.
Kylington is kind of in a similar spot.

Would Darryl even play said young players? Valimaki is down in Stockton, he sent Gawdin to the Heat after just a week, Pelletier hasn’t even had a sniff up here yet and etc. I also remember Sutter coming in last season and pointing out the entitlement this organization had towards its young players.
So even if Treliving was to trade for a young guy, I’m not even sure he’d get any ice time. Darryl definitely has an affinity for his veteran players and personally, it doesn’t matter to me. Ice the best possible line up, if you can still play, then play.

Thoughts on this deal for the Oil?
Korpisalo for Kostkinen + Puljujarvi
Oilers are saying they are not trading picks
Puljujarvi did request a trade at one point and we know those players typically move
Oilers are in tough to sign Puljujarvi due to their cap crunch
This move frees up the money to sign Kane
For the Jackets they unite Laine and Puljujarvi

Early days but Alex Tuch has been great for vegas with 10 points in 9 games.
And Krebs scored his first 2 today.
Perhaps that deal isn't as bad for Buffalo as people thought.
