Then if he signs, great, make a push and if he doesn't, blow it up and focus on rebuild. You should also take the time to explain the rationale, why you're doing what you're doing, that nothing is personal and that it is simply a matter of putting the organization first and that he is the key strategic piece of the puzzle to which ongoing / continued uncertainty will only hurt the team. Decision time. He'll understand and do whatever he wants to do.
To continue waiting and prolonging this though, is just stupid.

I think Treliving already had this discussion with Gaudreau/his agent, except without the 'take it or leave it' part.

Debrincat would be lucky to get 20 goals.
He needs a Kane.

I maintain we need Hertl, Pavelski or Forsberg to give us a boost for these playoffs.

Flamenation doesnt check their info. They suggested valimaki was one of our big trade chips with his 750k salary. He makes 1.55m .

Over the last two years it's actually been Kane who's needed a DeBrincat.
With both Kane and DeBrincat on the ice, the Hawks have outscored their opponents 41-38. With DeBrincat and no Kane, the Hawks have outscored their opponents 24-23. With Kane and no DeBrincat, the Hawks have been outscored 34-24 while being soundly outplayed.

I'm not saying that Debrincat is a bad player. But he's need someone to set him up. Monny is not that guy.
When Kane hasn't played with Debrincat, he's been playing with a cast of idiots.
Even based on your stats, the Hawks have scored the most goals with both playing together, then the same amount when they are apart. And that's with Kane playing with lesser offensive guys. The offence in Chicago still starts and ends with Kane. Kane also was playing with an injury last year which affected his shot.

It is just like 2019 how Stone was never going to really be possible to re-sign unless they took Neal back in the trade. Monahan, Backlund, Lucic, Coleman all look like deals blocking the team from extending their best players and adding to the team.
|
Even with rentals - why part with any prospects from our shallow pool or high draft picks?
There's a better than average chance this roster sees a major shakeup this offseason, and this isn't a cup contender at the moment, even with a rental.
Bit of an awkward, in-between phase this franchise is in at the moment. Perhaps more tinkering at the edges leading up to the deadline, grabbing a top 9 player to bump down someone like Lucic to the 4th line. Not sexy, but would help them compete in a 7-game series.

Well we are already renting Gaudreau and to an extent Sutter. If that remains the plan, they could use some more arrows in the quiver.

How are we renting those individuals and what makes you think that is the Flames plan?

Any player (or coach, I guess) on an expiring contract could be considered a "rental".
The Flames just have exclusive bargaining rights until July 1.
That was CBJ plan a few years ago (maybe not great in retrospect). Rather than trading Panerin or Bobrovsky as their contracts were expiring, CBJ kept their "rentals" for the playoffs.
IF the BT thinks that JG & Sutter will walk, he has two choices - move them or help them for the very short term. Move them, and we will all know which way the wind was blowing. Help them by trading future assets for more rentals.

How to get them? Treliving couldn’t get Eichel at a discount. He doesn’t have attractive assets to get top players. Everyone has a pick and the prospects are middling.

Gaudreau and Debrincat could probably produce like Kane and Debrincat, but that’s very undersized. Kane isn’t big at all, but Gaudreau is basically the same frame as Debrincat

At the same time as his contract expires (and he’s still an RFA FWIW) Kane and Toews’ contracts are up and I doubt they get paid more. Though Jones’ 49.5 kicks in next year.

It's not a trade I'd make this second...
But depending on Tkachuk's contract status at the draft I could get behind Dach + Debrincat for Tkachuk

And then I guess you’d move Tkachuk to a line with Monahan or Backlund? I think that would be OK. Or maybe a Debrincat trade means you can move Tkachuk before that ugly next negotiation comes to a head.

Debrincat can carry the puck, and Monahan is a better passer than he's being credited for here, for some unknown reason.
That being said, I am not sure what sort of package might be attractive to Chicago.
Valimaki + 1st 2022 as the base?

Yeah ideally it would be
Gaudreau - Lindholm - DeBrincat
Mangiapane - Backlund - Tkachuk
Dube (or Lucic) - Monahan - Coleman

This is why people think you are a troll and not a fan of the team. Tkachuk played with Bscklund for years and had his 34 goal 76pt season on his line.
