Debrincat would be awesome. And I’d pay a bunch for him.

Of course, they could just decide that, having missed out on the 2015 2OA they can trade for the 3OA and ask for Strome.

Why would the hawks want to move on from Debrincat?

Unfortunately, if the Oilers did decide to shake things up, I could see a Draisitl and Debrincat-Fleury swap. The Oilers would still have to free up some cap though.

Another team to watch is the Ranger. For how well they are doing, they have a lot of cap space. Guys like Lafreniere and Kakko have high upside but could be expendable to get back a proven player.

What do you mean unfortunately? That is a ridiculous steal for the Hawks. Downgrading an elite big body center to a small winger and old goalie is the exact move I want the Oilers to make.

Debrincat-Monahan-Mangiapane could be a very cool 2nd line.

Debrincat is not as good as Draisaitl and also doesn't play Defense. That would make the oilers much, much worse. I'm also here for it lol.

I am not sure that improves the Oilers. You’d basically swap out high end guys to play with McDavid, except that Draisaitl gives a second line centre option (that they refuse to implement when the going gets tough). So they still wind up being a one line team. And MAF is 37 - that’s a big gamble.

Plus they can’t afford it - that’s $13.4 coming in and $8.5 going out.

Fair enough. I was really just suggesting some pieces, not a full deal. It goes without saying there would have to be more involved. I say unfortunately, because it would take Debrincat off the table, assuming he actually is available.

The only reason the Blackhawks trade Debrincat is if they can't afford his next contract with their cap structure. It was one of the reasons they traded Panarin to Columbus.

Kubalik is interesting and was mentioned in a Flames trade target article. Lower cost of acquisition and RFA and RHS RW.

Toffoli is back from injury now, and I can't think of a player that makes more sense honestly.

Josh Anderson would be another one that makes sense, but his contract is is just so hefty.

Toffoli is my only real target. I love the idea of Hertle but just don't see it.

I'd give a 1st + b level prospect if Toffoli is healthy

Trade has to happen now for Toffoli for it to be worth it.

How so?

The guy has two more years after this one IIRC.

Just say no to rentals.

I am honestly having a really hard time seeing how the Flames can afford anything but rentals.

They are already going to have a near impossible time signing all of Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Mangiapane, Kylington unless guys like Mangiapane and Kylington take their QO/arbitration to get to UFA status and they come in cheap.

It is just like 2019 how Stone was never going to really be possible to re-sign unless they took Neal back in the trade. Monahan, Backlund, Lucic, Coleman all look like deals blocking the team from extending their best players and adding to the team.

I seem to be in minority, and I was bullish on Toffoli back in his draft year, but don't see how much he truly moves the needle on this current squad. Sure, we could use him, but given the hefty price tag he'll likely command. Will it just be another good draft pick squandered for a forward who produces less than he did historically. I'd also note his production has been up and down in his career. No denying his goal scoring ability, I guess. Injuries (hand) also an issue this season (though cool 1G, 1A in first game back recently).

I'm just not sold the pay out worth the price...
